Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (14 Viewers)

This is COMPLETELY dependant on what stakes you play. I have one group where we mostly play micro stakes. (nickel / dime) 98+% of the chips on the table are $5 and under. I use a set with oversized $20 & $100 chips for these games. I just have them for fun because the hundos will never hit the table. And the $20s only rarely. It's a big deal to have a $20 in these games, so might as well use an oversized chip, right?
True, I was speaking of casino racks, not mentioning about home-game set. I always had odd feelings of $100 chips being oversized with IH&C mold at Hustler Casino although they have chips up to $5k.

If there are nickels and quarters in the rack, then $20/$100 would be dope oversized chips. How much do people buy-in, 10 bucks? If it's around 10 bucks, then $20 oversized will give a good feeling for sure.

Makes sense in a card room / casino situation.

My micro stakes games are $20-40 buy-in. First $20 is all nickels, quarters and $1s. Anything over that is $5s. Rebuys are typically $1s & $5s or all $5s. $20s would only make it in the game if it was a particularly long, late night and stacks were getting big. It hasn't happened yet, but I am prepared for when it does. Rebuys can be up to half the biggest stack.

I forgot to add that I'm not a fan of 43mm chips

43 mm are tolerable for me. I keep buying them then selling them.

I’m trying really hard to like Fat Hats and recently bought a few racks but I can’t seem to get into them. They are awkward and look like you’re trying too hard

I will be selling the ones I recently bought

just a Sunday morning rant...

Can posters of chips for sale in the classifieds just reach out to people they know are interested rather than offering ROFR.?

All it takes is a PM or email to confirm they don't want the chips and then offer them up to the general public.

Personally, im not interested in offering to buy something if its possibly not for sale.
(naturally, unless I reach out to someone asking about an item they don't have listed)

That's it. Rant over. Not even that big of a deal just a pet peeve.

Second rant.... Coffee kicking in.

When your item is sold. Just edit the listing to SOLD.
No need to post again saying that your item is sold, which bumps the thread to the top again and pushes other sales further down.

Ok, all done now. Still calm.

I do think there's some validity to this when you have people posting as wanting backup - jist to they know its done. I don't think updating the thread to sold notifies them but maybe I'm wrong?
Fair point.

I agree with @MrCatPants If I'm following something of interest, then I appreciate the post that the item is now sold.

But on a related Rant - I hate it when something sells and seller edits the OP and replaces the price with "SOLD." Would really prefer for historical purposes if the price was left in the post.

I think that last one is a popular opinion :)

Changing the thread to “sold”, does infact bump the thread again anyways. Only “cancel” leaves it where it is.

Moot point. No?

Edit: it’s the threads that never get closed or explain what has happened that are a bigger plague. A sale ad needs “traded” “cancel” or “sold”. This much is for sure, if we want to keep classifieds orderly.

I think Ballys House mold 5 is better than any NAGB 5. Change my mind
FYP

How could I possibly change your mind? It’s like trying to make you like my tiger painting. I think it’s amazing. You might think it’s ugly.

When it comes to chips, there is no better than or worst than. How can your interpretation of what is beautiful and pretty be the only interpretation?

I’m tired of terms like “goat” “the best” etc etc. we all have the colors and patterns that speak to us.

I do sometimes write a post before marking as sold, specifically to notate if I sold the chips privately at a price different than listed price.

Used to do this before closing every sale in hopes that it would provide some clarity on chip prices as well as potentially catch on as a trend. If we all did it, then prices would be much more public and commonly understood.

I can see now how that might be aggravating, but it’s bump to the top is a fleeting moment soon to buried under an avalanche. By posting instead of editing OP, interest parties and notified and can see what the chips they may be after really sold for.

Ok I tried it out and changing the thread to sold DOESN’T bump the thread.
I stand corrected. Dunce cap donned!

Really thought it did

Can’t believe I’m just seeing this.

Poker size cards are far inferior to bridge sized

Fantasy chip themes are lame

Two decks are just clutter. Learn to shuffle properly and it only takes 15-20 seconds

The least amount of chips in play the better

Only custom chips are worth it…unless Paulson Noirs were readily available

Straddles should be banned

Bridge shuffles = amateur hour

I don’t know that I’ve used poker size anywhere.
Never knew this to be controversial, just figured folks had a preference.

This I’m guessing would be actually controversial. I can’t imagine a game where all the cards are mucked, gathered, shuffled, and ready to deal in 15 seconds.
Bridge shuffles = amateur hour
I can’t imagine a single game, home or casino, where someone would bridge shuffle and not be told to not do that again.
