Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (10 Viewers)

Matsui’s are fine if you like plastics I guess. It’s those premium Abiattis that are wicked pissa. But the price tag is tough to swallow.

I love the look and feel of Abiatti chips but Matsuis are just dumb. Premium price doesn’t mean premium quality. They(Matsui) feel and stack like shit.

I feel like most premium plastics do. I’ve never understood the attraction.
I said it in this thread a long time ago but expensive plastics are the exact same as cheap slugged chips when it comes to slipperiness and weight, except the finishing is a bit nicer. People will say they “stack well” and it’s bull - I’ve got samples of every expensive plastic manufacturer and they slip and slide all over the place. I’m not a stickler for stacking like bricks (I own BJ roulettes and love them) but I’ve always found it funny people hate on how heavy slug chips are and then buy 14g Abbiatis for $2.50 a pop.

Edit: I’d totally own a set if someone gave them to me, but I wouldn’t pay the price for them. I think cards mold or even China clays are more enjoyable to play with.

Right. I will say the Abiattis are nice, they’re really not slippery. I might pay a buck a chip for the right ones. But not 2.50.
I suppose some people like what they’re used to. If you grew up playing with plastics at Borgata, I suppose I can see the attraction, in a nostalgic sort of way. It’s why I like ceramics I guess - I started playing tournaments in card rooms that used ceramics - they’re fine.

Second this. I’ve had sets or barrels of:

- new Matsuis - slipperly as hell, poor stacking
- new abbiati - slightly better but still too slippery
- casino used abbiatis - take them away from me
- BJ (dunno version) - good stacking because of suction effect. Unshuffleable because of said effect.
- B&G - least slippery of all and decent shuffling. But 14 fking grams for 39mm is a no-go.

What's your standard here? I own thousands of Sunfly 43mm ceramics and they all stack 100 hi easily. They also don't fall over nearly as easy as sluggos if something hits the table.

Oh I love the Sunfly ceramics! Don’t think they really fall into my controversial opinion, being that they’re ceramics and not plastics. I also think the slippery chip thing is a bit overblown sometimes - even with my plastic chips I don’t really have chips sliding all over the place unless someone hits the stack.

Again, I love pretty much any chip and, should I have unlimited money and storage space, would own a set of everything. I mostly just think it’s funny when people who say they are Paulson purists due to the “best feel” will make an exception for high end plastics when the weight and feel is just so opposite of what they normally love.

Ceramic chips suck..... They are glorified dice chips with pictures printed on them.

I get the dislike for ceramics, they're not for everyone. But seriously, have you ever actually played with dice chips? They're not even in the same ballpark as ceramics.

Try this with dice chips and let me know how it goes....

Dice chips were my first set. I played with them until I bought some BCC CDI back in early 2000’s.

I've acquired some of these chips recently, and I'm able to say with certainty now what I've always thought, but never had the chips around to test it out.

Leaded textured RHC chips are at least 90% as good as leaded textured THC Paulsons. Maybe 95%. The stack, the shuffle, the sound, just primo stuff.

Which ones did you get? Maybe your RHC sample was defective.

She might be a great date, but she'll never be a 10.
