Controversial Chip & Poker Opinions (11 Viewers)

80x 25, 80x 100, 80x 500, 60x no value. Cant do it on my phone but a label design where 100s and 500s can look like 1s and 5s too. And 25s can look like quarters
I guess I have to ask why. You might as well have no numbers on your chips at all.

Clearly, you’re both wrong. :ninja:

Yellow and Orange are the best of the respective colors.
All love @warma but...

What is that from? I can’t recognize the second actor.

Val Kilmer and RDJ, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

And excellent comedy if anyone is looking for a good Tuesday evening movie.

Now enough with the happy holding hands around here, you're still wrong, back to controversy!

Yeah, I thought it was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but it’s been a while since I’ve see it.

Man this xenforo. I can’t blame the new people, searched unpopular opinion, opinion, opinions* before finding this right thread.

Controversial Opinion - I think all these rat rod sets are horrid and would rather play with any other set first. I think they’re super cool and unique, you know the hard to build piece by piece one or two or three that’s been in work for years. But once everyone starts doing it, blech, it’s just a bunch of mish mash mushy sets.

Controversial Opinion - I think all these boat chip amalgam sets are just goodness awful. Thousands and thousands of dollars for a set that has 0 cohesion. (There are plenty that look amazeballs too!)

Controversial Opinion - I don’t think the above opinions are all that controversial. I remember when I joined (the quiet of the storm) I had soooooo many stupid “Barrie fever dreams” chipset ideas. Back then, the vets were more vocal (not assholes just vocal) and pretty much said, “dumbass, that ain’t gonna work. Try again!”

The crazed influx of power users over the past few years + the chipping market + everything only being sold privately and all vets going underground and moving to PM, text, and occasional engagement here I think has led to this “every idea is a good idea”. It’s too bad honestly, as a totally non aesthetic person I appreciate people’s warnings and honest feedback.

Nowadays it just seems that every custom set, every chip set, every amalgam is the “bees knees”. Ignorance is bliss I guess?

I think that might be some real wisdom. I’ve been thinking a lot lately how screwed up it is here. How people are spending like maniacs on crap that makes no sense. Left and right, up and down, sell it off and do it all over again. I guess I’m used to seeing things that annoy me and just yelling at the clouds. But you might be on to the truth with this.

Some times when you're banned, unbanned, banned, and unbanned again you gain some perspective  :ROFLMAO:

I'm mostly there with you Jeff. Tried putting a mixed set together once but it's just so damn tilting having a set with a different inlay, mold, et al. I understand casino sets are their own animal, but you guys have no idea of how close I came to snapping up a beat to hell primary PCA set with the idea to send them to the chip spa for edge finishing. The reason I didn't? Mix of suits mold, RHC, and THC molds between each denomination. Couldn't do it.

Some mixed sets look amazing, but others are head scratchers. Same with custom sets. I'm happy with them if you are, but some aren't my cup of tea. It's OK to not like mixed sets/customs, but I follow the old adage my momma taught me of "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything". It's not cool to shit on other people's customs.

Man this xenforo.

So I can’t be the only one who wondered what drama user @xenforo was causing, right? …right?

I’ve noticed that as well— new members *clearly* looking for advice from more knowledgeable members getting responses like “do what makes you happy, it’s your set,” and “who cares if others like it as long as you do.” I understand so much of this is subjective, but I still don’t get that approach.

Im pretty new myself, but theres a lot of people asking for advice and then completely ignoring the advice, whether its design or breakdown or whatever. Eventually we just put kid gloves on and nod along.

It also depends how its asked. If someones convinced they love a design and clearly just want affirmation? Fuck it, give it to em.

Except if they're okay with only 100 fracs, then they're absolute scrubs and should be put in their place.

100%, Ill shit on your design plans pre fabrication because thats our role. Soon as the purchase is made? "Hey now, Im glad they make you happy!" Lol
Yeah that’s the hard part. And it’s honestly not judgement from me, I literally collect custom samples because I couldn’t ever make anything worthwhile - the worst ever is still far beyond what I could do.

But I refuse to blanket post “amazing chips and design” on every reveal because I do love a ton of customs and don’t want my feedback/compliments to be watered down. But at the same time feel bad cause it’s like damn, I bet they didn’t realize that getting a feedback group together would help.

Yeah, have to be super nice to everyone here now. It’s grown to be so much more than an intimate group of collectors, so kids gloves everywhere.

Maybe it’s for the better? I don’t think so, lol I’m very glad and appreciative of everyone that chewed me out, told me my ideas for shite, and engaged with me on why spot progression matters and why it doesn’t.

Now when someone posts their airball, all the old heads just message and text one another, “you see this shit?!” And that’s not dogging the old heads at all, just too bad it’s no longer worth the effort to post it here.

Hearddat. Its played out especially on this thread but I think most of the boat chips are fugly especially considering the price tag. No idea why some of the NAGB chips are so coveted. I'm just a degenerate who loves his big ol ceramics, and that belongs in this thread too!

I like 90% agree with you. But when the NAGB's got it right, they knocked it out of the park.

Lol, all respectable chips. Blue Tiger $1s are the only ones that would have a place at my table and thats okay, thats what keeps this fun for us.

Bro, you started with the ES and all I could think was if this guy doesn't list those Tiger Secondaries, I'm bout to realize were on very opposite sides suddenly......

Somewhat agree and I’ve been building one for a while. You have to have a specific vision and set criteria. It can’t just be a mess of chips. I think it’s also better than singles that just sit in boxes doing nothing. That’s not why these chips were made. But then it has to a be a set. And not several random groupings of a bunch of singles messed together. I’m also glad it’s not something I started until after I had seen and learned and handled a lot of other stuff because a lot for me is appreciation of the chips and you can’t have that without experience and exposure.

Controversial Opinion - I think all these boat chip amalgam sets are just goodness awful. Thousands and thousands of dollars for a set that has 0 cohesion. (There are plenty that look amazeballs too!)
I’ve said it several times before. Most NAGB chips are like fast fashion to me. High profit margin that’s glitzy on the rack but actually crap.

Try again!”

Agreed. I’ve not been around as long as many and I had my own slew of bad ideas but I so frequently see dumb rushed shit (especially with the proliferation of cheap China ceramic stuff) with tons of encouragement. I’ve done one tiny custom thing in the two years since joining and I’m glad that’s it. I got a lot of feedback early on when I posting up rushed custom ideas and got smacked down to think about everything more and slow down and I am very grateful for that. It’s tough and boring but I think we need to provide that honesty etc

Not sure this is controversial but I’ve been digging into eBay, FB, etc hunting singles recently and I just can’t remotely understand the large inlay or ceramic limited edition collectors edition chips.

Like what is this crap? Idk I know there’s no accounting for taste but aesthetically and from a collector perspective I just don’t get it. I’ve “collected” lots of stuff at different points but I’ve never once been interested in collecting things that were only made to be collected.

It’s like video games adding all this shit you gotta hunt just to extend play time. It’s not special. It’s just a revenue stream. It was made to be collected. Just makes my dick limp.

Based on page #69 of this thread, it seems MANY are still trying to figure it out.

SOME think they’ve got it figured out but still look for approval from others who have no clue.

Then you have the absolute CLUELESS. :wtf:

Just figured the thread needed a bone to chew on at this point.

Meanwhile……..Happy “REAL” Chipping to everyone.
