Make Plain Mold Chips Great Again!!

@RainmanTrail ... Just throwing this out there...

If I were you I'd take the initiative to reach out to the photographer, Bennett Raglin. Explain that you are a chip collector, that you purchased these chips, and that you found out he photographed the event (maybe even mention stumbling onto the Getty gallery). Tell him you're excited to find some proof to the source of the chips, but that you'd really like to see if he has any photos with people (ie, celebrities) playing with them at the party. I've shot numerous casino nights before, and there's nothing clients love more than action shots from the craps table, roulette table, etc. I'm sure he has some fun images of (famous) people using these chips... and that would be quite a trophy for you to score!

FWIW - Definitely throw him a bone on the money front, because there's nothing a photographer hates more than requests to go through their back catalog - especially from 10 years ago - and especially for free.

Not a bad idea. Could make for some cool poker room art at least (y)

Thanks

Me? Not at all. I actually really like fantasy sets. I've said many times that the Le Cove's and 21st Century chips are some of my all time favorite cash sets. I'd MUCH rather have those than most "casino" sets that are out there. I'm just pointing out that these are not "fantasy" chips at all. Words have meaning, and the term 'fantasy' in reference to a casino implies that it's a fictional casino - i.e. Casino de Isthmus, Casino de Mexico, Le Cove, etc. The Wynn, on the other hand, is not a fictional casino. So the term shouldn't apply.
Travis, you are confusing the 'home market' fantasy chips as the only type of fantasy chips. There are many other fantasy chips that were not made exclusively for the home market -- some were made for casinos that defaulted, some were never delivered to casinos, some were made for casinos that never opened, and a whole bunch of other reasons. All fall into the fantasy category, because they are not considered to be real casino chips (that were used or available for play in a real casino). That fantasy category also applies to the Wynn charity event chips, and other similar types of chips.

Would you consider the Golden Eagle $5s to be fantasy chips as well then?

And what about minty secondaries? Are those also fantasy chips? They were never used in the casino...

In general, I want minty chips. Which usually means I want chips that were never used in a casino. To each their own. I care much more about how the chips look and feel than I do about the history of the building they came from though. That's not to say history is 100% irrelevant, but it takes a back seat to aesthetics for me every time.

You missed the underlined part of my previous post:
they are not considered to be real casino chips (that were used or available for play in a real casino)
Secondary or backup sets are considered real casino chips, because they were produced to casino standards, delivered to the casino, and were available for play in the casino had they chosen to do so. Same thing applies to primary set racks that were never introduced to the floor..... which is another way mint casino chips make it into the hands of collectors.

***THIS POST FROM A DIFFERENT THREAD***

lol, as funny as those last few posts are, I refuse to crap in this thread. These are some great chips*, good luck with your sale (or raffle, if you choose to run one).

*fantasy, custom, charity, non-casino, whatever. Still nice stuff.

Travis closed the for sale thread but I just wanted to point out for the record I wasn't trying to thread crap, just making a funny post. I am firmly on the Love These Chips No Matter What The Fuck They Are Called side of things, I would consider these to be casino chips, and if I could have a big set of them I would. I love reading the debate, I love the passion and there is passion on both sides, the only thing this thread is missing is more pics!!

I'm not limiting to to anything at all. These are the best I've ever seen for my tastes. I'm open to counter argument pr0n though (y) Certainly there are many sets I've yet to lay eyes on. But for my tastes, these are the best I've ever seen.

Again, I wasn't trying to knock the Wynn chips. Im more surprised by your tastes, especially given that you have designed multiple sets. I would ask, If the chips were casino used (but not handled by Heidi Klum and BeyBey), On the Paulson House Mold and not Wynn branded - Would the colors alone still make them as desirable for you? I get the whole package concept, but if your lining them up against any existing 5 chip line up and saying they are the GOAT from a color coordination standpoint, I just don't see it. I'd put most of the custom sets on this board ahead of them.

My personal opinion - I still love Wynn chips, but its hard to mess up a Green, Black, Purple, Yellow Line Up....And Paulson Bright White is so awesome it goes with anything. The 25 does not do much for me. The 100 has great colors, but the spots are simple (not a bad thing IMO), the 500 is sweet but reminds me too much of the River City 500, the 1000 is A+, and the 5000 is great non traditional color scheme, but that spot pattern is fairly ubiquitous in the home chip lines.

Yep, for me, these are the GOAT. CPC colors can't compete IMO. I love each chip in this lineup, but even better is the set as a whole, it's greater than the sum of its parts. No other set I've seen goes as well together, across denoms, than these.

Wow, this thread suddenly exploded again. Is Rainman trying to unload some extras?

Personally, I like the Wynn chips. Not #1, but nice. Not top 10 either IMO, but nice. Not $4+ per chip (ACF's aren't worth that either, IMO).

Minty Paulsons - that's very nice. A set of minty Paulsons = grail set.

No Mold? I can take it of leave it. Better than RHC, not as good as THC. Again, this makes it very "middle of the road".

The inlay: . I mean, why not mention the charity on the label? Because That's what the guests came for - the charity. A denom and Wynn's name. Has there ever been a more boring inlay? Yes, but it is close...

...very close.

As for celebrity use, I've been to Casino nights with celebrities. Most of the celebs don't play though. They're not mushing elbows with the likes of me, they're just there to see and be seen. Their presence brings in lookie-loos, which brings in more money for the charity. So statements like "so-and-so" played with these chips is pretty far fetched. Even if Beyonce did touch chips at the event, there is no proof that she touched the individual chips that anyone has in their particular collection, so that makes the celebrity sighting even more useless banter. However, I agree with @justsomedude , that action shots of the celebs playing with these chips would make awesome poker-room art.

Clearly, @RainmanTrail loves these chips. He snap bought them at ~$4.11 per chip. That's either commitment to love or a man with too much money. I suspect it's the former. (y)

WSOP? Ive never actually seen them in person, but they set a pretty high bar

FWIW, Ive seen Prince playing with Mohegan Sun Chips.

I once saw a man playing with my chips that touched a celebrity but I still would not let him touch my hot dog.

I have seen many WSOP tribute chips. The colors, the inlay design, the history...
I have seen Bellagio tribute chips.
I have seen ACF tribute chips.
I have seen Borgata tribute chips.

Never seen a Wynn charity tribute chip.

Just sayin'.
