Explain the Wynn Chip Hype to Me Like I'm a 4 Year Old (1 Viewer)

I have seen many WSOP tribute chips. The colors, the inlay design, the history...
I have seen Bellagio tribute chips.
I have seen ACF tribute chips.
I have seen Borgata tribute chips.

Never seen a Wynn charity tribute chip.

Just sayin'.

Maybe we could do a ceramic tribute group buy
....there must be tens of people out there who would participate

I think it's funny (or typical for this forum, however you want to look at it) that someone making posts defending their love for a certain chip is "defensive" yet others making posts in the same thread over and over on the other side are--, well, something other than defensive. lol

To be fair, as somebody who is admittedly being "defensive" contrarily, @RainmanTrail started it this time.
Nobody had posted anything on this thread in over two weeks, when Rainman posted a picture (yes, a very pretty picture) proclaiming these chips the greatest of all time and it ain't even close.

I personally love the individual colors, spot patterns, mold, and the colors as a set. Hate the inlays. With a nice inlay I would consider these to be the GOAT.

I don't consider these fantasy chips. I guess I disagree with some of bginga's definitions of fantasy.

I also claim to a chipe xbert.

Well he did it in promotion of his sale which he bumped at the same time in the classifieds. There was about 2 hours of banter and then a "SOLD" listing. I see no problem with this at all as he generated discussion about his chips which all resulted in a sale! Good marketing IMO.

Edit: I don't mean to presume your intent. If you did it intending to produce a sale, good job! If you didn't, well congrats on the sale and I have no problem with chip pron......one of the things I enjoy most about PCF!

Oh ya and I also love these chips. Finally got a sample set last week (y)

Not my definition, although I do agree with it. The definition was established by the CCGTCC, who defines it as "... chips that appear to be real chips from real casinos, but actually are not."

They have an entire section on the web site dedicated to chips that are known to be fakes, fantasy or counterfeit, and categorize them with key codes such as Counterfeit, Fake, Home Poker/Fantasy, Movie Props, Manufacturer Samples, Chips Never Delivered, and Souvenirs/Promotional.

One might argue that the Wynn charity event chips are promotional vs fantasy, although I tend to think they are the latter -- since they were used in a 'fantasy casino' setting, and not handed out as promotional items. But one thing is clear -- they are not real casino chips as defined by the CCGTCC or Nevada gaming laws.

Real casino chips from the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas are submitted for approval by the NGC (these were not), are produced in accordance with NGC regulations (these were not), and are required to be destroyed under NGC observation when retired (these were not). The inlays do not meet the Nevada gaming law requirements, nor does the mold.

Not that it makes any difference beyond historical accuracy when referring to the chips in question.

I have no idea about CCGTCC's system, but at least on the Chip Guide the distinction isn't clear either in favor of a fantasy or a casino categorization. The Wynn chips from this thread are in the "prototype" section of the Wynn's Chip Guide entry. And the PNY's Chip Guide entry isn't that distinguishable from the rest of the New York casino chips other than the fact that it never opened.

Does the CCGTCC operate the Chip Guide? I have no idea.

Got to agree. The end result was a sale for top dollar on the set. I don't see the value but they did sell.
Just for the record they do have great colors and spot progression. Too bad there was no thought given to the inlay

The Chip Guide entries are typically submitted by individuals (who may or may not contain factual information), and the charity chips are incorrectly identified there as prototypes. David Spragg has posted actual photos of the real prototypes (made by BCC not Paulson, but with similar inlays), which appear to have been the basis for the charity event chips produced later.

Wow, this thread suddenly exploded again. Is Rainman trying to unload some extras?

I was only semi-joking in my previous thread, about Rainman trying to sell more of these. I wish my poker reads were so spot on - I'd be a bazillionaire.

Interesting idea. If the Boardwalk chips have turned out to be this popular, imagine what would a Wynn tribute interest list would look like

I don't have much confidence in a ceramic tribute set looking amazing. The colors are what put this set over the top for me. If they were even slightly different, it would probably change my opinion of them by quite a bit. I imagine the ceramic colors wouldn't do them justice. But I'd be in for a sample set (y)

The three people who actually like them, screaming into the wind about how awesome they are, while Rainman figures out a way to turn a profit on the free advertising...

People who really like a particular set of chips touting their love of said set of chips is pretty common around here, and to be expected. But for this many people to also tout their LACK of love for said chips is what I find so funny, and is also what fuels my continued trolling of pics and defenses of this epic set of chips.

Truth be told, I really couldn't care less if some people don't like these. But it sure is fun to watch a fireworks show! I enjoy supplying the popcorn! Would you like extra salt with yours? Extra butter perhaps? Extra large you say? That'll be $12.99 sir. :ROFLMAO:

And yes, I got a free 2 table Holy Grail tourney set out of the Wynn-Rainman marketing campaign, AND profited from the chips I didn't keep, which in turn helped keep CPC in business! (y)

Free holy grail set + CPC customs = happy chipper

I also propose that what fuels at least a fair portion of the hatred of these chips probably has more to do with people's hatred of me than it does of the chips themselves.

Geez you even overcharge for your mythical popcorn. I'm sure it's the best popcorn ever though!

Edited to add I don't hate you, or the girl who rear ended me on 695 last Sunday. I think you're funny actually.

If someone were to buy chips for $1 ea, and later resells them for $2 ea, does that make him an asshole?

Why keep on if you do not care. I do not know you personally so I will not judge your actions but you say this and then you keep putting fuel to the fire. Then on top of that you come out and say that you profited greatly from the chips. Not just that you profited but how much you profited. In my mind it just seems like you like the attention. You make statements in different posts that always seem to come off as "I can do anything you can do better, I can do anything better than you".

Ok, you have some great chips but many of the chips you sold and profited with are way better than the Wynn "Charity" chips.

Just an observation. I am sure that you are great guy so I will end my observation here.

Because I find this to be remarkably entertaining, of course!

No, i don't think there's anything wrong with making a profit. The way you go about it though sure can rub people the wrong way. If that bothers you, you can either change the way you do things, or not be so sensitive to other people's criticisms.

I bet the folks who bought your chips would love to read this..

No one has complained about the prices of the Wynn chips. And if they had, I would have happily sold them to any of the other half a dozen people on the waiting list who were asking for them via PM.

You guys have no idea how much interest there was in these chips. My inbox was literally flooded by dozens of PMs from people wanting these chips. I sold about 25 sample sets for between $60-$70 each, and could have sold more but didn't have enough spares to meet the demand.

Maybe this qualifies you as a site vendor? LOL:ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

I also sold out of 85 $30 raffle tickets for a 300pc set of these in just a few days at a set valuation of $8.50 per chip! People want these whether the naysayers recognize it or not. They are some of the most desired chips to ever hit PCF.

We'd sure have a lot more vendors around here if buying chips for $1 and later reselling them for $1.60 qualifies someone as a 'vendor'. :ROFLMAO:

Well, I think there is a significant difference between selling by chance at a higher price because the market has moved upwards versus borderline craven flogging and puffery to try to drive the price of a set of chips higher, solely for the purpose of flipping for a maximum profit at the expense of other forum members. Most of us know each other and that leaves a bad taste in our mouths. I personally think it is crass, but different strokes for different folks.

And the almost breathless repetition of what is mostly (at best) conjecture about these chips makes me roll my eyes.

I've never understood the attraction of these chips, for pretty much all the reasons already stated, but to each his own.
