Cash Game Favorite Cash Game Buy-in Stack (2 Viewers)

We use 20/21/3 (1/5/25) for 100bb stack in 1/2. Will just add 5s or 25s for those wanting deeper stacks. Will try to get 2 racks of fives in play rather quickly, but don't mind if we get some 25s in there first. My players are actually more often than not even getting the hundreds in play sooner rather than later as well. Well before I get 2 racks of 25s in play.
I will put 3-4 racks of $5s in play before I break into the $25s and $100s.

Our games are either 0.25/0.50 or 1/2.

For our 0.25/0.50 games most buy in with $40 so I go with
8 - 0.25
13 - $1
5 - $5. top off with $5 if they buy in over that

Once you have enough quarters in play, rebuys should be mostly 5s. I don't bring more than a rack of fracs, two racks of 1s and 3 racks of 5s to this game. Topped off with 25s and 100s.

For our 1/2 games most buy in for $200
10 - $1
28 - $5
2 - $25 (optional, you can definitely go with 10 more $5 here)

Rebuys can be a combination of 5s, 25s or hundreds as the night goes on. I bring 1 rack of 1s, 4 racks of 5s, and the rest 25s and 100s.

I treat the lowest denom as just being enough to post blinds and make change when needed.

A related and perhaps more interesting question is: what is your preferred rebuy stack?
I always strive to get all the blinds and primary workhorse chips on the table with the first round of buyins.

Rebuys should be secondary workhorse and value chips only (e.g. $5s and $20s/$25s for a .25/.50 game).

I mostly played 50c/$1 stake and I always started the Game when we have 5 people.

If I using Cash set with 25c $1 $5 $25
First 5 person get 20/20/15, after that 0/20/16 and rebuy mostly in $25

If I using Cash set with 50c $1 $5 $25
First 5 person get 10/20/15, after that 0/20/16 and rebuy mostly in $25

If I using Cash set with $1 $5 $25
Everyone get 20/16/4 and rebuy mostly in $25 and $100

I'm really surprised by how many fracs people are giving. In my opinion these should be used on a very limited basis, and having stacks of them at the table makes it harder to bet and harder to calculate pots.

for my .50/.50 game
6x$0.50
24x$1
3x$5

You give out $42 on a $40 buyin? When is your next game? Can I play? Also I request you cash me out first.

To set out my cash game buyins, I start with a barrel of $1s, remove two from the top and add 8 $0.25s, make up the rest of whatever the buyin is with $5s.

Usually it is $100 so starting stacks are 8/18/16

Yea it varies quite a bit. I agree with @MrCatPants that you don't need a lot of fracs (or the lowest denom on the table), just enough for the game to function but there's also people who love fracs and will get two racks or more in play.

Depending on who shows up to the 0.25/0.50 game it can be mostly social and drinking with people just buying in for $40 at a time to a bit more active game with people buying in for $100 or even $200 as the night goes on. In the more active games every seems to bet with 5s and I start giving out 25s with their buy ins. Getting 25s into play in the more social and laid back game is very rare. In short I'm just saying adjust to how your crew plays.

The ideal number and breakdown of chips is [X, Y, Z] - any more than that and the table gets crowded and cluttered, any less than that and the gameplay gets awkward due to change-making. Accordingly, when rebuys add money to the table, that extra money shouldn't alter the breakdown of chips in circulation, and thus the rebuys should be made with the biggest chips available and the rebuying players can simply get change from the players that took all their money already.

I always strive to get all the blinds and primary workhorse chips on the table with the first round of buyins.

Rebuys should be secondary workhorse and value chips only (e.g. $5s and $20s/$25s for a .25/.50 game).

This is how I do it when I host.

I have a pretty regular 0.25/0.25 NL game that I run with some friends. I have a $25 buy in with option to rebuy when felted up to $20 at a time. That way it keeps the stakes pretty low and we can just chill, drink beer, and have fun.

You sit down pay your cash (I use venmo) and you get on barrel each of .25 and $1. Simple to count out quickly and just jump right in. Then depending on how many people I have I will either rebuy with $5 chips or just give you a barrel of $1. I have a 800 chip set right now 200/300/200/75/25 (0.25/1/5/25/100). Which is way overkill for anything we play.

@bergs dropped this wisdom in another thread and I feel everyone, especially here should live it:

“Nobody wants to play cash with just a few chips. Just feels shitty.”

My .25/.50 cash game $50 buy in (and I have changed to the Manzoni rule that you can rebuy for up to $50 at any time and up to $100 if you get felted):

20x$.25
20x$1
5x$5

Rebuys will usually be w/out fracs, unless the player wants them.

Here’s the starting stack for my $0.50/$0.50 game. Probably slight over kill on both the $0.50 and $1s, but I like not having to make change often, and we have a dealer that deals for tips, so the smaller chips get used for tipping too. I vary the amount of $5s, depending on what the specific player buys in for.
