Guns you own (9 Viewers)

Out of the blue, my brother texts me with questions about pistols... He's looking at a CZ P10C, a HK VP9 or a Wilson Combat 1911.

I want to go to the range with my brother now... :(

In the last 3 months, I’ve had so many friends ask me what gun they should buy. Every answer has been different.

Home defense/self defense. We talked a little bit about shotguns, too.
Wilson Combat are about as good as they can get for 1911’s but still wouldn’t choose one for HD based on capacity. Of those three I would take the HK...but a Glock can be had for cheaper, is the gold standard of reliability, and has cheaper and more accessible magazines, holsters and other parts. M&P would be another less expensive and more common/assessable choice.
HK makes great pistols but rape you for magazines. Wilson Combat 1911 are very very expensive. You could probably buy 3-5 of those HKs for the price depending on the model.

The cheapest magazines for the HK I have found is $40 each!

the new model of the HK comes with a slide cut already for an optic sight. A nice upgrade, but also about $100 more now than when I bought mine a few years ago. The increased price could also be panic related.

I have three.

These are my two handguns (Glock 43x and a Kel-Tec P32 ). Don't hate me on the Kel-Tec pocket pistol. I've had it for a long time and love it.

And here's my ATI Omni Hybrid AR Pistol. Excuse the unmade bed. I promise I don't sleep with it!

That’s what it’s been since 2013 I believe. Nothing was relaxed. The Glock 19 holds 15 rounds so you would have to buy spacers to limit the mag capacity. The M&P 45 compact has and 8 round magazine standard.

"Magazine size limited to 10 rounds. Law enforcement and retired law enforcement with last service weapon only, are exempt from the 10 round limit. Also exempt are antique high-quality magazines if registered to an associated antique assault weapon. Under the NY SAFE Act (signed on the 15th of January, 2013 by Gov. Andrew Cuomo) the magazine law was changed. A legal provision that mandated no more than 7 rounds that may be loaded into the magazine was struck down by a federal judge on December 31, 2013."

Brutal. Glad I live in the free state of PA

If you need more than 10 rounds, buy multiple mags. If you need more than 3 mags, you’re probably fucked anyway as a civilian.

Night stand gun depot... (with flashlight nearby)

I like two guns, as I’ll grab one to deal with any intruder, and Mrs Honda can shelter in place (with protection).

once my new AR mount comes in. I’ll be adding another layer to the HD plan

Same gun, so mags swap. Smart.

I think it's a 26 and a 43. Dbl stack and single stack
correct

The 26 stays in the safe, the 43 travels, and stays in the safe at night. I’m in the process of potentially trading the 26 for a new gen 5 G19... or maybe I’ll just get the G19 anyway. I have a couple of guns I dont use, not practical, so I have no problem letting those go if they get replaced with more useful guns.

I think I’ll be selling a Sig P290 with a ton of mags and accessories, and I’ll likely get more than a new G19 will cost me

If I carry 9mm I’d want at least 30 rounds. When I carry 45acp 6+1 feels like overkill.

You guys sound like the “back in my day” old farts at my gun club 20 years ago that used to sit around drinking coffee with fake creamer and bitch about these damn new fanggled “Tupperware” guns and how the M16s jammed in Vietnam back in ‘65;).

In all seriousness modern 9mm and .45 defensive ammo performs almost exactly the same. The very minuscule advantage .45 has is greatly offset by the additional capacity and controllability of 9mm.

As for capacity, how can anyone know what you may need? There is an old saying “no one who was every in a gun fight said ‘I’m glad I didn’t bring more ammunition’ “. You can’t possibly consider all situations. There used to be a video floating around online of a cop having to shoot an assailant on PCP over 15 times with a .45 Glock to get him down. Up until the last round he was still trying to point his gun at them.

My carry load out a M&P compact with a 12 round magazine and an extra mag. That’s 25 total rounds. If I could easily conceal a larger gun I’d carry more. The extra mag is as much for dealing with the first malfunctioning as it is for extra ammo

Not to get into the BS term of stopping power, but ballistic gel testing and physics show there is more force from 9mm than .45.

There is a reason that the FBI carries 9mm.

Just to be clear the purpose of my post was to start a .45 /.9mm debate. One of my favorite pastimes on the gun forum. Akin to the long cane short cane debate here from time to time.

.22lr is enough for most stuff especially if you can aim.

I was just watching a video interview with a mafia hitman who is let out because he cooperated with the FBI. He was talking about a hit where he was instructed use a 22. He went in and shot the guy behind the head. The guy grabbed his head and started screaming “what are you doing what are you doing!“ Shot him five times with a 22 finally had to tackle him and shoot him in the face to kill him.
