Have Chinese cards mold replica sets gone too far? (6 Viewers)

I get the allure of the Tina chips, but seriously, just hang out and wait for Jim to sell something you can afford. I guarantee within a couple years you will have more paulsons that you know what to do with.

I have been through a billion aThC solids, affordable RHC, you name it.

You just gotta have patience. Maybe I’ll never score with Grand Cardrooms, but give it a decade and my HSI gonna hit almost as hard.

Creativity and patience is the name of the game. Glory can be yours.

Should have bought the Empress chips when I could have, biggest regret.

I don't even underatand why this mold is needed. The potential headaches it could cause is huge compared to any advantage it would bring.

Beside creating a complete knockoff or counterfeit what value does it bring? A non-chipper isn't going to notice the difference between a CM and RHC mold, so is the only point to try and trick chippers?

Because, as we established, FOMO is as real as it is stupid.

Where I’m at is the legal principal of “fuck with the other guy as much as possible”.
So I’ll see you in the Politics thread?
I don’t really believe anyone’s going to come for chips.
But….
Exactly.
they could start something just to fuck with somebody and waste their resources.
Luckily for me I have no resources. I’m like Ireland. Nothing of internet here, just that I’m very drunk, I haven’t seen the sun since I was a wee lad, and I’ve got lots of pluck (mostly as a result of the drinking).
File about 7 injunctions for all kinds of things, even if they ultimately aren’t provable, just to get them to cave on the one you care about.
THEY COME FOR ME LUCKY CHARMS?!?

(I haven’t faded a river since the Carter administration. Anything lucky I ever owned went up my ass a long time ago).
It’s like you never sued anyone before or something.
No, I’ve never resorted to the abomination that is our warped legal system to compel someone to do something when I can happily employ mirth and common sense in my appeal to my fellow man.

Also, the drinking.

Haha people would get mad if you even mentioned their “copyrighted” art without asking first.

The world newbies
(Imagining short people with hairless cherubic faces and stubby legs)
are going to be quite surprised when the people that built this world realize that nobody has any interest in obeying their rules.
(my adorable Dwarven army is met by a menacing team of nerds brandishing OFCP scoring laminated wallet-sized cards and pirated copies of AutoCAD)
Those builders are very ruthless when unchained and unrestrained.
Isn’t this two ways of saying the same thing? You can be chained but not at the same time restrained? I mean, maybe if you didn’t tether the chain to something solid, but that feels more like a usability issue than a product liability problem.
You may mock them now,
I’m busy mocking someone else at the moment, but I’m happy to add to add someone else to the queue….
but they built this
on rock, and, rollllllLLLLLLLLL
and they are very very capable of building a much nastier version for you to live in.
And I also would like to welcome you to the dilipadated landfill that is Eastern New Jersey.

I eagerly await the Sci-Fi adaptation of the book you’re writing.

(Let’s see…hairless people, check. People with stubby limbs, check. New Jersey, check, check, and check. The Irish, check. The Isaac Asimov crowd, chhhhecck.

I feel like I’m forgetting someone though. Something immmmportant….

My head hurts......there's a good hour of my life I ain't gettin' back....almost like debating whether fake boobs are as good/worse/better than real boobs. They're all good in the moment, and while fake boobs are great to admire - I personally prefer a real boob, whether they perky or saggy, big or small. Prefer small, truth be told, but that's a story for another day/thread.

Chips are going to be a thing of the past for casinos in most of our lifetimes. It will start with the corporate casinos, and trickle down. This will happen as soon as the knockoffs are virtually indistinguishable from real chips (but it's already being tested from what I've read), and threat to the casino's bottom line. And the cost to make "secure" chips will be more than simply switching out to high tech. Virtual chips on an embedded touchpad. Remember coin in - coin out slots?

Real chips will be collectible, and increase in value. Tributes/clones/etc will be used entirely for very small casinos/personal games/etc. Once mainstream casinos stop using chips, the "Chinese" will stop cloning them, as demand will fall. But there will be more custom/fantasy/personalized chips.

I have a ceramic Mapes set - I did NOT want the 'tribute' Mares set. Loved the Mapes, and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside when I use the chips. And yes, I've got racks of real chips. Also just bought a set of Jumers. I personally have no desire to have a clone of anything that's in play right now. But I understand those that do.

There will always be bad actors trying to take advantage and rip off other people. If there's demand and profit to be made, there will be rip-off artists. Best we can do is educate, be diligent in our purchases, and strive to a higher standard. There will be new generations of players that think differently than most of us. Hell, I think differently than my parents did on some stuff. Always been that way through time, always will continue to be that way.

Now that I've rambled - I don't know that there's going to be a definitive answer or consensus to any of this. But I do like a good, cold beer. And good booze. Sometimes bad booze if that's all there is. Oh, and "recreational gambling". And did I mention good food?

Not cool. They deal with enough as it is. No need to add more shit to their plate.

This is an old stupid joke, and used in exactly the same context. Nobody is adding shit to anyone's plate. Except for promoters of fake ceramic HC, which deserve all they can get.

Apologies for any offense, for there was absolutely none intended.

There was a pic floating around, but I can't seem to find it.
I don't think there was a pic of the actual chips, just an image of the chip mockup tool showing RHCs and Tina seemingly implying/confirming that the new mold looks like that. Still hoping it's an inspired-by take but not full-on copy of the Paulson hat and cane...

Ahh. That's what I saw then! My mistake.

I don't know how IP works in China but initially the Cards mold (and Diamonds mold) were offered by SF only.
It could be that it's not the first time they copy a mold.

Not sure who asked for that mold to get made, but is it too late to change the design to something else?

For non chippers they obviously don't være- they probably don't know what a mold is. So it means this mold is made for chippers. I don't care for it either, and since it seems to potentially bring problems, are the producers able/willing to change the design? @SeanGecko @justincarothers (tagging some GB masters who might be in the know)
Nobody really knows what Tina is up to in her lair. She did approach me to make artwork for a hat and cane mold that she called “TopHat” mold. I explored it but ultimately decided I did not want to participate in something like that. I told her we had a couple of other ideas for a new mold and have those almost ready. Going to put up a poll soon to see what people think. Once one is picked she has agreed to start producing chips on this new mold.
