First, I apologize if this is posted in the wrong forum.
I have been buying/selling and trading poker chips for several years. It is a good obsession. I tell my family -there are much worse obsessions then mint poker chips.....
I have literally had no transactions where the buyer or the seller had an issue that was not resolved. Well at lease until recently. On January 11, 2025 - I sold some Paulson Pharoah chips on eBay. It turned out it was an international shipment to Scarborough, Ontario - Canada. I followed eBays recommendation and shipped using USPS - international priority - I purchased the shipping thru eBay and delivered the Package to the post office that day.
Well, for some reason, the USPS sent the package all over the place and the buyer - never contacted me - but filed a claim with eBay. Long story short - since the package was not received by 2/15/2025 - eBay gave the buyer a full refund and charged me back the amount they refunded him.
The package was delivered on 2/25/2025. I contacted eBay - they said I should contact the buyer and ask for him to pay me or arrange for shipment back. eBay would not (at least they said they couldn't) let me reinvoice the person. I contacted the buyer via eBay messages - no response. I had his phone number - called - voice mail - he did not call back. Texted messaged him yesterday - no response. Texted again today, get a nasty response. We go back and forth - I offer to send shipping label or arrange for payment. No, he said he had a hassle and had to pay $90 custom fees (which by the way eBay lists that as possible for international buyers). Finally, he says he would pay me $100. The selling price for the chips was $425. I explained that was too low and just to put this to bed told him, pay me $200 - and lets be done. I even explained that there is a web site PCF where he could find someone to buy the chips. I gave him by PCF name and said you can check me out and see some of my other deals. His response was interesting - "...that site you referred to is pathetic as evidenced by their reviews. A bunch of sheep following what gatekeepers tell them to do" "My offer is $100 otherwise don't contact me again".
It's not a big deal to me - but basically he is just keeping the chips - got a full refund and thinks that is the end. I am trying to work with eBay - but it is difficult. I have a feeling that he may have been a member here and had a bad experience.... His eBay name is roci-9612 - Perhaps that rings a bell to someone. He lives in Scarborough Ontario - maybe I can find a local member who knows him - and can help. At this point I don't want to put out his name - but if someone has some thoughts they can message me directly. His initial are RC.
I am interested in what other members might do in this situation. Would you just forget about it and move on ?
Thanks - (It is so much easier to buy/sell/trade with the folks on this site)

Nah this is scum/scam territory. They know exactly what they are doing. I'd fight. On both fronts , eBay and the individual. eBay for charging you - get that refunded since is proven chips were delivered. Wouldn't have offered any discount or concession, hold the line otherwise opens to getting less than should happen.

This is properly shitty, and I fell bad you are having to deal with this.

There are folks here who wonder why there are sellers here on PCF who say "CONUS only". This is why sellers here don't want to do ship 'international'.

I'm pretty sure there was a Canada Post strike during this time, and the buyer is taking advantage of this to the fullest effect. It might take a lot of time and a lot of effort, but this is a case where I would fight this with eBay as long as you are willing to. Provide tracking numbers, screenshots, and even the contents of your messages with the buyer. You did your part, and the wheels came off the bus on the other side.

Again, sorry to hear you are dealing with this, but I fear the eBay "the buyer is always right" policy might have you by the nards on this one, which sucks a million ways to Sunday.

I'm curious why you say this is an international problem? Couldn't this happen exactly as it did with a US seller and buyer?

Seems like more of a problem with a scummy buyer on eBay than shipping international, especially when using PP F&F with PCF chippers. Or would US eBay users never scam anyone?:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

I hope this gets resolved for the OP, but unless someone here knows the buyer and can apply some pressure, I doubt it. :(

this happened to me selling a used cell phone years ago. The buyer never responded and the eBay rep couldn’t really understand what happened, and began telling me about the time they sold something for $11 and everything went wrong and understood how it can be frustrating. No resolution so I gave up.

That being said, I really think eBay will sort you out. I would be pursuing this hard if I was you. The buyer has absolutely no grounds to be paying less than the full price. In my experience, reaching out to large companies over social media is faster and more effective due to the implicit threat of a viral post hurting their business.

And please don’t blame Canada for this scammer!

So, just to clarify - eBay opened a case - I responded with the facts that the item was still in transit - they issued against me because the package was not received in timely manner. I appealed and lost. They said I did not provide them with shipping/tracking info - they were wrong. I am trying to get them to reopen the case - they keep telling me to file against the shipper - I have provided proof that I used their recommended method and bought shipping theu them. Still trying to speak to a manager level person......

Separate questions - do we have any members in Scarborough Ontario ?

This kind of circumstance can easily happen with domestic shipments, but, the reason I say CONUS only is to avoid the extra layers of entanglement that can happen when customs are involved. It is real, and it does happen, and, I can avoid that by not putting myself in that position.

Amazing how many people missed that @AlbinoDragon wasn’t blaming eBay or Canadians. Just that adding those extra layers creates more potential problems.

Sorry to hear about your experience on eBay.

What would your ideal resolution be? Reposess the chips and have them mailed back to you at cost?

^^this for sure...

^^and this as well....

This absolutely could happen with a US seller and buyer. An impatient buyer and the time delays that are more likely to happen with an international transaction exacerbate those issues. As a mentioned in my initial post, if the Canadian postal strike was happening at this time, that added even more time from shipment to delivery.

People want things now and if they don't happen that fast or faster, they get impatient. Unfortunately, I think a lot of folks why buy on eBay realize that more often than not eBay is going to side with the buyer, shafting the seller as a result. That's really the scam that happens in a case like this... intended or not.

I see the update that your appeal was rejected. Here's hoping you can get it re-opened. You did all the right things, and are continuing to do so.
