Host can't pay out everyone, what to do? (8 Viewers)

How about a different hypothetical? Some very wealthy friends and other occasional invitees get together for a big game every few weeks. Big winner or loser is probably up or down $100k on the night. They typically settle up within a couple days through bank transfers, and everyone knows not to bring or expect to get much if any cash. The hosting duties rotate among the group. Is the host that day responsible if one of the players flakes?
I just think everyone weighing in is extrapolating from the games they are used to playing in. There can easily be different sets of rules. I’m fine with alternative sets of rules as long as the rules are explained to people up front. Everyone should go into the game with complete information about exactly how debts are handled if credit is advanced. And I would never want to play in a game where I was inadvertently extending credit as a player.

If I played in a private game north of $10k buy ins for ea player (and no one is bringing cash and/or we are not at the casino) I would require money to be in escrow w the host before the game started unless the host is extending credit and then I’m gladly ok w a rake.
However the entire escrow may tip you off as a “nit” in this level of a high stakes game. Someone playing for $10K, is probably similar to us not having a problem letting a close friend extend $400-$500 until next payday etc…
My preference for when a game is higher stakes is play at a casino, host that rakes, or bring cash and always have serious security regardless.
Always play with the expectation that payouts will be whole at the end of the night, and make that expectation verbally known before sitting down.

Well if everyone knows that going into it that’s different. But the default rule is always going to be the host is responsible unless everyone is made aware and in agreement BEFORE the game.
