Yes, I believe you are right. This has been my hypothesis all along.

I just got them (the new Faded Spade X version) yesterday and opened them. Not a fan. They feel like paper cards and shuffle not that great. Very stiff. I agree with @redrobin, I love the design, and the way the face cards look. But I love my Broken Arrow cards much more by @justincarothers those were only $8 a set up, compared to these at $30 a setup.

Let me know if you're gonna throw them out, I was curious but didn't want to pay $35.

I've heard the same, my players love the art and feel of them until they have to use some muscle to shuffle em.

One good thing I will say about Faded Spade is the ink is stable and doesn't seem to run or fade easily as say, COPAG.
