It is crucial to invest in yourself. You could make $15k or $300k, but it is important to always look to better yourself...you never want to shortchange yourself.
In the end, money just gives you the ability to buy a bunch of shit you don't need. It won't make you happier, just makes it easier to pay the bills. Growing up in a lower class household in Philly, I would have never envisioned spending $1,000+ on poker chip sets, so for that I feel very blessed.
P.S. My wife doesn't give a shit how much we make - I still need her permission to buy poker chips
