I was part of the original Crown Plaza GB. Did anyone else notice the imperfections on the sides of the chips?

Yeah, I noticed. Wish it were different, but not a deal breaker for me. The chip faces are perfection.

I know what you mean by imperfections , I too was asking myself that and wondering how is that possible with abbiati. The dots yeah , but to be honest it’s not a turn off at all for me. These chips are very very high quality , there will be reason the dots looks like this. I’m sure the quality control on these chips are very high , so they saw it before we even saw it. And if there was a issue according to them , they wouldn’t ship them out in the first place. This a manufacturer that normally only sells to casinos , and mostly casinos so they know what they do ;)

I also noticed some "flat" spots at the injection points on my samples. Almost looks like it was sanded down.
I saw some of those too but they are more infrequent. If they were raised it would have been an issue but they were sanded down on mine as well.

They most likely are. Polishing step after coming out of the injection mold to ensure uniform diameter and to take out that pesky pip.
I guess that’s what gives them their soft velvety feel , by the polishing process ?
Or is that just their plastic in general

I think that's really a quality of the plastic they use.
Abbiati uses a non-ferrous metal disc - the rest of the chip is basically built around it. The vinyl label base is so thin that it can't be separated from the disc without totally disintegrating.

Those pips trailing off is really standard on Abbiati chips (I remember seeing pics on the blue wall over ten years ago, as well as on Abbiati’s promo material before the last GB), and it seems to be more prevalent on certain color combos than others. Not sure what causes it, and I haven’t tried a magic eraser / sanding to see whether it’s only on the surface or not.

Another issue I noticed with the Crown Plaza chips is on the first letter of the inner ring. The cross on the T in THE is really thin sometimes. These could just be quirks of Abbiati’s manufacturing process, but I haven’t tried sanding the surface of a chip either to see whether the T becomes fully visible.

BG chips are also made with soft plastic, but they seem to have a sharper, more consistent look when finished. They do have a hard surface finish to them and need to be broken in for optimal grip and feel, while Abbiatis are soft and awesome right out of the box. Don’t know if this is a factor for the pips trailing off, but maybe something to consider.

Well I just bought a HSI cash set, just received updated art from J5 for an add-on to my CPC cash set, and have John also working on brand new inlay art for a CPC tourney set for a family member. So, at this time............yes of course I’d be interested (read: unable to say no) in another set of chips that I absolutely do not need via this group buy:)

Looking forward to seeing the mock ups!!

That’s the spirit!

You know, what if we did an Aria (high roller denom) or WSOP tribute for the .25, $1, $5, $20, $100 and then did a totally custom and creative tourney set. Seems like the best of both worlds. All the tribute guys are happy, and then all the other guys that want a completely new and different set are happy too. Win win.

I think the best way to go is to make a set that will cover most of our needs and suit our tastes. They did that perfectly with the previous Abbiati GB IMO even though I wasn’t there at that time. I’m sure tommy would do it that way again

For sure! If it’s anything like the Crown Plaza GB, it’ll be sick! Tommy will certainly crush it.

I’m only hoping that this set will have a cash $25 in there as well. Kinda missed that on the previous GB , but we will see

Can anyone loan me 10-20 crown plaza chips? I just need to check these out. Was on the fence last time and the only thing that held me back was that I have not handled Abbiati chips. Obviously I would pay shipping both ways and even tip. If there is going to be a sampling sent around please include me. Thanks

Same here! Would like to sample as well.

Do you really want to try to copy clay chips using plastic chips? Fine with ceramic, but with the limitations of plastic, it just wouldn't work very well.

Perhaps you’re right. I’m not too familiar with the contrasting qualities of either materials to be honest.

On page 7 @JustDave had offered to make sample sets available if a sharing process for members to get a sample set, check then out, send on could be established. So hopefully that is in the works. FWIW, I am also interested in seeing the samples as I have never handled Abbiatis.
