KK On The Button (2 Viewers)

It is and it isn't. Early in a tournament with 100 BB or deeper stacks, it's essentially the same situation, plus the consideration that you're risking your tournament life in a small favorite / huge dog spot.

Some tournaments, even late in the game, I tend to not want to get my stack in at all if I can help it. Often, it's so much more profitable to preserve my ability to steal blinds and other uncontested pots. Depends a lot on the lineup of opponents, though.

I think they are many more justifiable spots to fold KK pre-flop in a tourney.

My reads:

UTG (solid reg player): Hero comes to the ultimate conclusion that given the betting actions, cast of characters, and information available to each player at the time of their significant action: UTG 99% most likely has AA, I'd say I was just about 100% sure, but I couldn't be because I couldn't actually see his cards. Truth be told, he is a solid reg, but he is no POKER HERO. I don't think he's ever putting his stack at risk in this spot without "the goods".

The Loose Cannon: He seems pretty drunk and happy at this point, mostly enjoying the action. He's been going on benders lately playing from 6pm one day ... I'll come back the next day (after sleeping) ... only to find The Cannon still at the casino enjoying the action during the 9am tournament. Don't get me wrong, despite his wily and erratic table image, The Cannon is not a complete degenerate loser. (About 4 years ago I think he won a big WPT event for like $400K I think. He shows people pictures on his phone all the time. I checked it out and it's legit.) He is just a fearless old stubborn LAG, who probably likes the action a little bit too much. I've sat at a $1/2 table with the Cannon firing :th: :6c: on all streets with pretty scary boards. I've seen him with $3K on a 1/2 table, wish I would of taken a picture, you guys would love it. He just looks like a not serious / funny guy. Hero figures The Cannon has any pocket pair or a suited connector. The Cannon is suited connector happy sometimes and I've seen him jam those in the past. The Cannon is a bit of a luck box too. He seems like he is in a gambly kind of mood tonight ... so as most of you probably have concluded he really doesn't have to be that strong at all in his spot.

Anyway back to the decision...

Hero is sick in his stomache at the thought of having to lay down in this spot. All the books I've ever read say "lay it down you stupid fish...there is no way ever you are good here at low stakes!!!". My inner self is screaming "lay this one down big guy, we'll get'em next time", as I glance slowly around the table I can read the expression on Old Man Coffee's face...."lay it down young buck, you look like you're probably beat...no sense in stacking off...we can drink coffee waiting for :ah: :jh: all night"....but at the end of the day I am no Poker Super Star. I cannot act reasonably even with all of the information available ... I just simply resign to the fact that I am NEVER EVER EVER EVER going to fold the Cowboys for $200 pre-flop. I tell myself "if we were deeper then I could consider it". Hero slowly pushes his stack across the golden betting line ...

UTG insta - asks "you got Kings?" before tabling 2 red aces.

But that's not the end of the story ... oh no ... there would be no point in posting this hand without an even sicker outcome.

UTG: :ah: :ad:

HERO: :ks: :kh:

The Loose Cannon: :8s: :8c:

Flop comes with a big juicy $400 RED KING in the window! Hero is happy for the moment, until he re-checks card suits.

:kd: :4d: :7d:

UTG has the nut flush draw...

The Cannon is dead to an airball ... he basically just laughs at the flop and says he really felt like he was going to flop a set, he knew we both had big hands.

Turn:

:5c:

Pretty mundane card. Nothing too much to talk about.

I mean The Cannon does pick up a gutterball I guess ... nothing to sweat.

I'm more worried about the guy to my left binking a diamond, but I'm a favorite right now.

River:

:6h:

UTG got a little excited which made me giddy, then he realized it was a heart and not a diamond. :D

So yeah that happened. TLC goes runner runner for the win hitting a "3'outer" OTR ( :6d: is no good )and starts piling the red birds in front of him with the stupidest drunk grin I've ever seen on his face.

I'm feeling pretty deflated and tilted now...
I just rationalized that I got it in bad anyway and really didn't deserve that fat pot.

The Cannon notices I'm a little steamy so offers to buy us each a drink.

So I made sure I stuck it to him ... and ordered a top shelf Long Island Ice Tea lol

Oh this is great. I'm sorry for your loss but I've lost more with Kings, trust me :p

I would have called too.

Loosey goosey takes down a monster.

Besides, if UTG is holding :as::ah:, loosey goosey is going to come from behind and take this pot with magic luck so both big hands are doomed.

If poker never had any luck involved, you would never have any drunk loose cannons out there that you could make money on.

Honey? Honey! The guy limps the pot, then calls a $15 raise. I make it 50 to go and he pushes! I got Kings, I figure he's got Aces. He flips 8's, I flop a set and he rivers a straight! Worst player in the world!. You sir, are not going to last in this game. I can't believe these people. They come in here and want to play with the pros and they make plays like that. He's got 8's and pushes against a raise and a re-raise. Unbelievable! Worst player in the history of poker! You misrepresented your hand - YES YOU DID! You played like you had aces. You're an amateur! You'll never make money in this game with plays like that! I got a set of kings and he rivers a 4 outer straight! Unbelievable! ... and on, and on, and on ...
