I dig the pile of sculls, lots of detail required for the sockets and nose. Impressed.

The trick is to paint it all black first.

Then take ivory paint, but wipe it off on a paper towel until it seems like there isn't much left on the brush

As you paint over the skulls with ivory, you are dry-brushing them, so it doesn't fill in the sockets, creating a really nice effect

Same with chainmail. Paint it black, then dry brush the metalic color on top and you'll have some nice depth

I also do the opposite (a wash) where I take one drop of black paint, then 8 drops of water (dip the end of your paintbrush into the water, then drop that into the black paint)

Then brush over clothing, armor, faces, etc

At first it may seem like you're painting over the base color, but you've thinned it so much the black helps to mute overly bright colors and fill in crevices. This adds depth and some gritty realism to your minis

Little update to my Anauroch Campaign Trailer. Adjusted a little bit of the dialogue, some of the images and extended the opening and closing with some fade-in and fade-out sounds as well which I feel flowed better (the opening with the desert winds blowing in the first video was too quick and cut off abrutly)

A couple more finished

Very nice! No female minis?

I skipped the temple painting today because I'm busy applying 2640 Gear labels for my 2nd roulette set. However, should be back at it tomorrow and maybe far enough along to get a couple preliminary pics up.

I do have a few female minis, have approx 60 total in the collection. Got a ways to go to finish them all

Here's a sample of my progress so far in the snake-themed temple. The factory made several pieces that were cast in two separate colours to represent basic stone and jade, but I wanted everything to look like it was based in jade so I basecoated with a medium green and drybrushed with a slightly green-tinted white to give contrast and represent wear on the stone. I used a simple fluid metallic gold to represent gilding for most of the snake elements, though some are basecoated with a bright red to give a bit more garishness (but also gives an aged effect as well). There are LED lights in the flaming braziers.

I'm probably about 40% finished. Even though the remaining tiles for the diorama are the same size or smaller, the detail elements get even more complex.

Those are badass!

Finished painting this set! It sure took some time, but I'm glad it's done.

Just paid for the yearly subscription to Inkarnate so I have access to all the mapping tools. Got a color laser printer on the way so working on the first area of my campaign, the fortified settlement of Haslon.

Still learning all the tools and features, so this is just a work-in-progress shot

Starting to flesh it out more. Still have plenty of work to do as I'm learning the tools and techniques. But feels good to make some progress on the opening act of my campaign

I may not know much about your world, but in a world where zombies, skeletons and all sorts of undead (may) exist, why would you put the cemetery inside the city walls?

First time DM working on a map of the starting area for the party (they'll arrive escorting a caravan) and would love some feedback on my opening plans. Plan is for this to be a fortified settlement of 1200 citizens (would have 20 guards and 80 militia as it's a more militarily located and focused settlement)

Upon arrival the party will be at the rear of the wagon and some of the guards at the front of the caravan will turn out to be Zhentarim slavers. They'll slit the throat of the merchant, cut the hitch for the horses and cause the wagon to be stuck blocking the gates from closing, then attack the gate guards and the party while one of them blows a horn to signal the main force to attack.

At the same time, loud shouts will erupt from the woods as about 300 Zhentarim slavers emerge rushing the gates. The party will have a certain number of rounds to deal with killing the fake escorts and helping the town guards to clear the wagon from the gate before enemy forces reach the gate and rush inside.

My plan is to then have the party either help defend the settlement during the siege, or be part of a small group that exits via the north gates to take horses and ride off to call for aid.

If they remain in town for the siege I plan to have the slavers offer to spare the lives of the townsfolk if the town surrenders and gives up 10% of the population as slaves. The leadership of the town will reject the offer, but some townsfolk fearful of dying will form a mob trying to open the gates and take the deal.

The party would have to either negotiate, intimidate or fight some or all of the mob depending on how they approach the situation. They'd also have set pieces where the besiegers make attacks on the town and they'd be involved in throwing it back long enough for outside help to arrive.

If they opt to be part of the small group that rides off to call for aid, they'd have encounters along their route with slaver scouting parties attacking them or coming across slavers attacking others on the road or escorting captured slaves, etc.

That's pretty poor odds. But the slavers want slaves, so have a backup scenario where the party is captured and locked up, then it turns into an escape and get help scenario.

The idea is that most likely they'll defeat the slavers who started at the gate, and with the help of guards get horses re-hitched and the wagon moved before the 300 attackers reach the gate

The defenders of the settlement should be able to hold during the seige until help arrives

But it should allow me to orchestrate some fun action sequences with choices involved that impact the results

So instead of reworking my city map, I decided to work on my region map which is trying to be as accurate as possible for the area of the Dalelands and Anauroch. Then I'll figure out where to plug in the reclaimed lands where folks are trying to take back the desert, and work my city in from there
