Played in a 10/20 home game the other day with denoms:
10. 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000.
You'd think the 20s would be useless, but they were in fact sorely needed because the total numbers of 10s were 25. Yeah. 25x 10 chips for a full table. I believe there were 25x 20s as well. Add the fact that the chips were super similar in color and bad lighting in the rom, and it was confusing as hell in the beginning. The whole table were a bit annoyed by the numbers of denoms, wierd denoms and similar colors and there were multiple small mistakes made early on. You can imagine our shock when the host came to the table after an hour or two, asking for some of the small chips. He needed both 10s, 20s and 50s to open another cash table! Lol. The dealer and all the players were like: "yeah that's not really gonna work, we have so few already." And the host reply was pretty priceless: "what do you mean?? There's 25 of the 10s!" (Suggesting that should be more than enough for two tables) He did end up taking about 10x 10s and 10x 20s and a decent number of 50s from the table though, and I guess he was right - it did work to some degree.
Anyways, play went on for multiple hours, no huge issues. Goes to show that less efficient breakdowns also technically work although far from ideally and there will be a decent amount of changemaking. A dedicated dealer definitely made it a way better than if we didnt have one. It was a splashy game as well, and straddles to 50, 100 and 200 were very common. We played PLO and pot bets were rounded to closest 50. Essentially bets were made 90% of the time using only 100s and/or 500s, which were both plentiful om the table. I ended up booking a 10k win (1k usd) so that was nice! Forgot to take a picture though.
