2020 limited and first four gate I've seen :wow:

I’m gonna pick up a bottle of Elijah Craig today. The spot near me has both the barrel proof and toasted barrel. Which do you guys think? Has anyone had both?

I've never had the Toasted Barrel. I always take Paulos word!

I keep going back and forth on that bottle, LOL!!! I go from it's good to it's too oaky and astringent. I think it's worth buying a bottle but it is not as fantastic as the Barrel Proofs.

So spent the afternoon at a store for their allocation raffle. Well went there and left as the only bottle I really wanted was the Blanton’s Gold and that drawing was at 3. Some great stuff but most people wanted the regular Blanton’s and therefore wanted the Gold. So when it was over I had a Stagg Jr in my hands but they misplaced one so I gave it up to the individual who won one in the raffle. So the only unwanted bottle that I got was the SE4. I also have more bottles of Little Book Chapter 4 than they raffled off but that also went unclaimed.

And?

OK my bourbon friends. Does there exist...

1) ...a bourbon
2) ...that exceeds an EC barrel strength, WT rare breed, and the like
3) ...that I can go find relatively easily
4) ...and is about $100

?
Little Book? I don’t think it exceeds them but pretty good pour

I like the Knob Creek 15LE and Murray Hill Club. I wouldn't say they are "better" than the ECBP. At 60-65 ECBP and Stagg Jr punch way above their weight class.

When you say "exceeds", do you mean in proof or in quality?

I think if we are talking quality, that is subjective as you know. For me, it is hard to beat ECBP at that price point and availability. Stagg Jr is up there but it's becoming impossible to find.

Now, here are some options from different distilleries as far as barrel proof is concern. All readily available (sort of) and below $100:

Barton: 1792 Full Proof
Jack Daniels: Single Barrel Barrel Proof (great option)
Beam: Bookers and KC Single Barrel 120P
Four Roses: Single Barrel Barrel Strength (becoming harder to find)
Old Forrester: 1920 (also hard to beat for me but 115 proof)

As far as wheaters go, you have Larceny Barrel Proof and Makers, both regular and the 46, in Cask Strength.

EC Barrel Proof can get around 140 proof for some bottles. Booker’s can also be up there. It’s around $90 here, but difficult to find.

I think I will grab a Bookers the next time I see one. That is what I was thinking. Stagg Jr is a no brainier, but I will never find one. Same for BT Antique, those retail $109, but yeah.

Will be interesting to compare it to EC Barrel Proof, RR Single Barrel, and my new value town favorite, Dickel BiB in the blue bottle. It’s not technically bourbon, but it’s basically a fraternal twin.

Larceny tonight. Revisiting this one -- nice on the nose, but lacks the depth of the other bourbons I have been drinking lately. Not terrible by any means, but I likely will not be buying this one again.

I feel the same way. It’s ok for the price. I’ve been making Kentucky Mules to finish off my bottle.
