Pre-Sunday Roast smoke and drink. The Wee Beastie has just enough sweetness and smoke to go with a good Monte Cristo.

I should grab a bottle of this but hesitant. I freaking love the ugaidail but was disappointed in the correyvecken. I have the ten that I haven’t opened since it was a gift and I promised my friend I’d crack it with him (pre-covid). Is the wee beastie worth the grab?

It's like $50 around these parts. Nice 94 Proof drink if you want a break from all the full proof stuff nowadays.

I start my night with full proofs and cask strengths and work my way down. I find that lower proofs are exponentially tastier after proofing down like this.

I dot the same with scotches and peat. I start with heavy peat and work my way down

Watch out for this guy at the poker table. He's got strategy, even for his drinking.

I think you, @gopherblue and @ChaosRock are the Scotch Kings around here. Someday I would love to play some poker with you guys and raid your Scotch shelves.

I actually have less scotch bottles than bourbon. I got into scotches through bourbons which seems backwards. It is my opinion that the bourbon hype is just a fad. Scotch hype has been around for decades and will be around for decades more. Bourbon hype will last as long as most fads do, but bourbon doesn’t have the prestige as scotch does internationally. And damnit, let me just give a shout out to Japanese whiskeys. Those Asian stereotyped overachievers!!!

Granted, I still like bourbon, but as prices have shot up, I’ve been turning back to scotch. It’s safe, tasty, and just as addictive as bourbon.

Forgive me, I’m drunk.

 I merely dabble, and as luck would have it, make twice-yearly trips to the UK to visit the inlaws, so I have motive and opportunity. :ROFLMAO:

@ChaosRock is the real Whisk(e)y Whisperer™! :tup:

So I poured the 1792 Full Proof again tonight. I get so much cinnamon now. It’s along the lines of Noah’s Mill, but more proof and not as good. But I do like it.
Awesome! I need a few days to recover...then I will dive back in. There is no real pressure to drink anything else I have open right now. In fact, the less older stuff I drink, the more comparisons I can make in the future as I go on my bourbon and rye quest.

Cinnamon also makes sense as a bourbon scent. Cinnamon as we know it is actually the bark of a tree. I think it's all harvested in Africa.

I find myself fascinated today by just how much effect WATER has on bourbon. (And I am sure all whiskey.)

@IslayScotchGuys has anyone tried the Laphroaig Cask Strength...Yay or Nay?

As @JeepologyOffroad wrote, the Laphroaig 10 Cask Strengths are absolutely phenomenal. Way, way, way better than the regular 10 and a great value if found it at msrp, which should be between $75/$85. There's plenty around as well, but not everywhere. The one caveat obviously is that one should love peated islay malts as the 10 Cask Stregth is what one would call an extreme of the genre. It is a classic, man!!

Well I have not read the first 188 pages of this but i would like to add a few of my favorites so far:
Go-to bourbon: Buffalo Trace
Favorite Bourbon to date: Blanton's.. currently have 2 bottles and 1 finished
Unique bourbon that is very tasty: Jefferson's ocean aged

Scotch:
First scotch that will always hold a spot: Lagavulin 16 (I guess it is weird to dive into islay scotch's first but i did and i love them)
Current favorite: Bowmore 15 (love the sherry cask finish)
Current Budget favorites: Ardbeg An Oa, Kilchoman machir bay
cheap blended shout out to monkey shoulder

I live in an MSRP state, so for me a quality single malt is typically $30-50 more than a quality bourbon, and often much lower proof.

I too live in a state controlled abc stores. The quality bourbon isnt ever on the shelf. It’s at the register since there’s already a line before opening. I still like bourbon and will buy whatever I can find but my palate has turned more towards scotch.
