Official PCF Whisk(e)y Thread (75 Viewers)

Say what you will about New York in winter, but when I can have allocated and hard-to-find whiskies delivered* to my door for just a whisker over MSRP? Yes please.

@Forty4, that’s your bottle on the far left. Or far right. Whichever.

* [EDIT]: Delivered, as in, ordered online and delivered by hand 25 minutes later. No sloshing in snow required. :cool

Saw a bunch of them at Costco the last couple times I was there. I was jealous they did not have a similar bourbon for me to buy. (Price range, age, etc.) Not a scotch guy, but I can get this for people too.
I imagine it will make its way over to UK Costcos soon enough. Tough sell though; do I risk the best part of £100 on a bottle, or play it safe with something I know will deliver.

What do you guys go to for a daily drinker? For under 40 bottles that I don’t mind mixing in an old fashioned I usually go high west double rye or four roses small batch. Eagle rare too when I can find it (difficult in FL for some reason). Preferably something that is reasonably obtainable to purchase.

All nice options, tbh.

All quality selections. I typically go with something like a 1792 Small Batch, Bulleit 10 or Woodford Reserve for an old fashioned or manhattan. $30-$40 max and available pretty much anywhere around here.

I’ve had the 1792 full proof as a store pick and loved it. But had seen mixed reviews on the small batch. Will have to check it out.

Both the 1792 Full Proof & Bottled in Bond are really good, I've enjoyed all of the 1792 profiles I've had. I just recently found a place that stocks the BiB, for the extra $8-$10 that will probably replace the small batch moving forward in my cabinet.

Oh it’s pretty good. You can taste the age vs the regular 9yr.

Spice and cinnamon up front. Caramel and sweet on the back, with a little oak. Less nutty than the 9yr.

I have a 15yr coming from @Big Jilm soon and I can’t wait.

Agreed, if you like a slightly sweeter dram this one is really good. Their 15yr is on my list to try as well, I'm trying to avoid bringing home any more bottles for a while, I'm running out of hiding places to stash them lol.

Preach on, brother. My stash cubby holes are full too.

my Costco has Rare Breed for $42.99 - hard to beat that.

Its my favorite that I have had this year. I would absolutely buy again. Granted, my selection is minor leagues compared to most of this thread, but I'm having fun getting there.

I already had more than 60 bottles of single malt scotch—and a storage problem—when decided to start buying bourbons and ryes in December, and now I’ve already bought 15-20 in the last 6 weeks! My cabinet was already full, and now I’m trying to find places to hide the new bottles. My wife is like “wtf has gotten into you?!?”, and she hasn’t even seen the two new Willetts and the spare bottle of Alberta Premium rye! Still looking for spare Stagg Jrs and a Weller Antique, so this is just getting off the rails at this point. Lol.

I wish I had that problem. The most bottles that I have owned at one time were 10. Well, 15'ish if you count tequila, gin, and vodka. I don't count the rum at the house because @moose and @Jeff have provided those.

My wife lives in a state of constant denial. I know she knows how much I spend on chips and whiskey, but she never questions when I tell her very selective details about it. I'll say that paying $200 for a bottle is crazy as I'm putting a new $200 bottle on the shelf. I just never tell her that I'm not crazy.

Clearly I don't drink fast enough. Most I've accumulated during trips to visit my inlaws in the UK over the last decade. One trip, when the dollar was particularly strong, I brought back 10-12 bottles. The customs guy at the airport let me through since he didn't want to be bothered filling out paperwork.

When I was offered a bottle of ORVW for $140 at a store on New Years Day, I was clapping my hands with glee when I got in the car. I looked at my wife and said "this bottle goes for like $450 and I paid less than a third of that!" And she said, "tell me you didn't pay $150 for a bottle of booze?!?!" And I said, "Are you crazy?!? I didn't pay $150 for a bottle of booze!"

Colleen just saw the discover bill from a shell gas station stop last week for 190. I picked up two bottles of ECBP and a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed lol. She gave me the stink eye.
