I'm gonna try to get into some Irish when the diet is over. So far I have Yellow Spot, Redbreast Lustau, Jameson and Bushmill. On the lookout for Bluespot and Redbreast Cask Strength.
We like Redbreast 15 and Yellow Spot best, but haven't been able to try the newer bottlings yet -- Red Spot, Blue Spot, Redbreast 20. No idea if/when those will make it to the US.

The new Teeling distillery in Dublin is making some nice stuff. The hotel we stayed in in 2019 was only a few blocks away. We tried the the 24-yr. Single, the Small Batch (Rum Barrel), and the Revival (Calvados finish), and they were all excellent.

FWIW, the Wikipedia entries for Green Spot and Redbreast are kept pretty current.

Blue Spot has been in the US for at least a few weeks now, but in limited quantities I believe.

Valentine’s gift from my wife: a Japanese cut crystal glencairn-esque glass. Wider and slightly more squat bowl, with similar sized flute. Feels great in the hand and nice weight. Next to a traditional glencairn for comparison.

Can’t wait to try it tonight...decisions, decisions on which candidate gets to go first....

That’s a nice glass. Where’s it from

Recent pickups.

Bunnahabhain has been on my list for a long time. But since PA is stupid, never been able to get any. Was in Ohio last weekend and stopped at the liquor store to see what they had. Not surprised, but they had a way better selection than most PA stores. As soon as I saw this, had to pick it up. Really good, perfect blend of a sweet peat.

Had no idea they released this old overholt 114 until I was in the store yesterday. Looks like they had the 11 year as well but was picked clean. I scoffed at the $30 price tag for a 4 year old rye, but the proof and NCF had me interested. I'm a sucker for quality under 30 bourbon and ryes (ogd bonded, WT101, ew bib, Rittenhouse), so figured I'd give it a shot (ba-dum-tiss). Didn't disappoint imo. Was shockingly easy to sip at 114.

let me know how you like it. Their glasses look nice
I like it. Nice heavy base, and facets make it very comfortable to hold. Wider bowl is great for swirling. Fluted mouth is as narrow as a glencairn, which TBH I think is a bit too narrow. But overall, it is a nice glass.

Been saving this one—Weller tasting from @ssanel54. Full Proof, Antique 107 Store Pick and 2017 WLW. I’ve never had any of these—very excited!

[Edit]:

Totally different from the whiskies and ryes I’ve been drinking lately! Much more subtle in flavor (no doubt due to the wheated aspect). Being an Islay single malt guy, these are a polar opposite to what I tend to favor. But not in a bad way.

Started with the Antique 107 SP, then the Full Proof, and finally the WLW. Each sort of builds on the prior one, being more than the prior.

Given my palate and noob status with respect to bourbons, I’m not sure I’m qualified to really appreciate these yet, but TBH, I definitely favor the bolder, punchier flavors of GTS over the WLW. Especially at the price point. As I gain experience, I suspect this may evolve.

On second tasting, the WLW definitely has a lingering, lovely finish, with a subtle cherry that goes on and on (although definitely NOT the in-your-face cherry cola of Stagg), and a little leather. At the right price, I’m definitely game to try a bottle.

Wellers are the wheat mash bill like Pappy. Stagg I believe is mashbill 1. You’re entering Stones vs Beatles territory

The red cap old overholt, bottled in bond rye is quite good and is only $26ish. Working on a bottle right now.

From my understanding , the only difference between the 2 are an upped proof and NCF (I think).

Can it still be BiB if it's CF?

And the verdict? Please tell me that the WLW is the FINEST sauce you eva'

I don't know why I try anything new that I know has no chance to beat Rare Breed in a head-to-head. I'm up late, feeling lousy, but drinking some Rare Breed, and it is some great, great whiskey.

Here's hoping that during my next "new bottle" competition that the Maker's Mark Cask Strength rises to the challenge.
