My only local store changed their ways quickly. Bought EHT for $30 in november. They finally got some more in but now it’s a hundo :meh:
So beat lol, it's been so long since i've seen EHT around here for less than $80 - finally found a place that stocked it for $55... they only let me have one :wtf:

I found 3 bottles of stagg jr batch 15 super early and paid $100 each for them. I didn’t know any better but tbh it’s worth $100 it’s so damn good
I'd probably pay that now - at least for a bottle to try lol. Lowest i've seen around here was $150 - there are some stores that had them at $80 or so, but they've been sold out

Arrived today. I'm in no hurry to crush the other 6 bottles, it'll just be more fun now when I do finish them!

How did it end?
I'm still 2-3 hours from even sitting down to do the sipping!

Just finished an errand to cross state lines to purchase necessary items that are not available in my jurisdiction. Stopped at a couple liquor stores in MI too, nothing noteworthy except a Knob Creek Cask Strength Rye - I passed on it at $70. I'd rather have the Jack Daniels Barrel Strength Rye at that price.

McKenna is very good. Worth the $52 with tax. Saw it for $250 at another store. :ROFLMAO:

Checks a lot of boxes, but not worth $250.

Celebrating some small personal victories today. I also got my Missouri 50c chips back into the display, finally. I had to make room for the Ore House $50 plaque (Chipco! no less) that a member here graciously sent me after reading my admiration for that establishment's chips in my "Most Beautiful Casino Racks" thread. I'm a middle class family man, and this hour is my wind down hour, my personal hour, where the burdens on my shoulders disappear temporarily.

The contest so far...wafting and neat...Eagle Rare is miles ahead on both counts. Eagle's aroma is so much more cleaner and refined than the Oppidan. And the flavor comparison is no different. The Eagle really is a special sub-$30 bourbon.

I think it is awesome what the Oppidan is doing with the solera process. If you're curious, look up the wikipedia about it. If you're too lazy to do that, basically you age the spirit, whatever it is, in a barrel. Each year, you dump out half the barrel to sell, then pour the new spirit from the current year into the half you just emptied. After you've done this for ten years, you have quite the mix of new and aged spirit in the product when you dump it out to sell each year.

Bourbon already has rules, 51%+ corn in the mash, aged at least 3 years in charred oak, blah blah blah, you all know that. So to "solera" a bourbon, you do the bourbon part first, for what I am guessing is the 3 year minimum. Then you get a different barrel, in this case it looks like they got some French Oak Olorosso Sherry casks, for the solera process. Very intense, especially for a startup distillery. They had to be well capitalized, because to get a great product from solera takes years. Maybe I'll try it again in five years if they are still around. My feeling on a lot of these new distilleries in the last ten years is that they just aren't going to make it. Most of them have mediocre product for the price, and as people figure that out, sales will not follow. Older, established, high quality, familiar names are innovating too, and they have more resources and better stuff when they bring a new product to market.

Time to get the double walled glasses and add some cubes.

This is also how they make Goldendoodles. :-)
