So I just got a call from a store I know. They have one bottle each of Old Carter Rye, batches, 7, 8 and 9, for a reasonable price, and are giving me first crack at all of them. I have a bottle of the batch 8 already.

I think the OC rye is a bit of a red-headed stepchild to the American Whiskey and the bourbon, since not everyone likes rye (I do).

What do I do?
This was entirely predictable.

Wot? I like rye.

Apologies for the flex.

Backups! I've opened all the originals except the Frey Ranch Rye, which will be a Christmas morning pour. Really looking forward to that one. And I've not opened my first EC Toasted Barrel yet either. I had to move these from their prior location for a project, so I thought I'd take a photo while I was at it.

How is the FAE-02? Anyone try it? Mad at myself I missed the 01. Local has it in stock. Worth picking up?

yes, $60 plus minimal tax is a fine price
Unfortunately $70 is retail in NYS plus 8%. Part of that is probably NYS regulations that all labels have to be approved so if you make a small change it means a new filing. Not sure if that applies to proof statements but sure having different wood combinations means a new label.

Over-regulation yuck. Indiana has one of the highest sales taxes in the nation (7%) but there are zero additional liquor taxes or local taxes ever. The alcohol market seems pretty free here as well, but I'm not familiar with all the details.

On the first day of Scotchmas, Johnnie Walker gave to me: Black Label.

I (re)learned this week that the 12 Days of Christmas is supposed to begin on Christmas. January will be a dry month for me, so I’m going to end my 12 Days of Scotchmas on Christmas.

For 12 years I drank johhny walker almost exclusively. I literally wallpapered a basement bathroom in the labels I steamed off of bottles and deco paged them to the wall. To this day I really enjoy that whiskey and find black label to be a very easy drinker. Green label is now my favorite but I still buy handles of red label for when I need a refreshing drink on ice after a run or long day.

I can’t really tell blue or gold from black but I can pick red, black, green and double black blind folded all day long.

Swing is kinda good too and the bottle is fun for display. Cause it swings and all.

Thanks to this thread I have expanded my pallet significantly into bourbon and rye and for that I’m most grateful!

I imagine that one is better, but this one is VERY good.

I had a brand new old pepper but I unfortunately stored it on its side….

Never do that y’all. The shit opened on its own and poured out. Same with my only blantons. So sad. I still haven’t seen another blantons around either :confused
