I imagine that one is better, but this one is VERY good.

We should trade samples. I still need to send you ETL. I am sure we could find a few more to trade. (after I run your blinds of course, lol)

The Michter's 10 Year Rye is amazing on the nose. If you are able to see the detail on the bottle, you know what I am struggling with here. Now, this is my first pour from this bottle, so perhaps it will open up a bit. The palate is very good but not blowing me away, and there is a finish there....but it is subtle, but nice. It is very good whiskey, but at only 92.8 proof I need more from it. Gorgeous color, getting some plain bubble gum notes, orange, mint, and yummy rye. Reminds me a bit of bourbon as well (maybe calumet or sam houston with that plain bubble gum), nice sweet rich caramel happening as well. Time will tell, hope it opens up and kicks my ass like I hoped it would!

Finishing up my Knob Creek single barrel reserve. And now, the Fred Noe single barrel select.....is FINALLY OPEN!!!!

Just past half way through my version of an advent whiskey calendar...

Aside from last Friday https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/official-pcf-whisk-e-y-thread.3763/post-1703838 , each night this month, until Christmas, I've been getting one pour served to me blind from the bar.

Ultimately, just a fun spin on nightly drinking to see if I can guess what it is. This includes any bottle (open/unopen), except my top shelf stuff.

So far, this is what I've been served and I've correctly guessed 5/11 on the first try. I'm embarrassed I missed the OF rye.

I've been pretty good suspecting anything new (Wilderness Trail for example, even though I didn't guess it right).

My equation for solving has been pretty simple and really helps process of elimination from the bar: proof>palate>nose. Sure sometimes a clue from one of the categories has more influence, but I've pretty much nailed proof range aside from the rest. As you can see, it took me a week to get something with some proof though, but it was super easy once it did! Funny how much I've enjoyed these from this perspective (even though I only have the good stuff, haha).

A couple other notes:

It was a while since I had Cooper's so whiffed there. Delicious however.

Really big surprises... Michters and Woodford (last nights). Apparently tastes better and/or more enjoyable when blind! Michters, just smooth caramel and vanilla. Woodford wheated was a huge disappoint a couple pours in across the first few months I had it. However, last night was just way better. I kinda mistook it for a rye due to the spearmint/evergreen/spice it brings, as well as the number of different tasting notes it displayed through the sipping. Great bounce-back for the $35 bottle.

Dickel also surprised, not at all what I thought it was going to be. Also smooth and enjoyable, no strange taste.

Noah's Mill, Obtainium Light, EH Taylor, JD were all layups for different reasons. NM is an unmistakable flavor profile to me, Obtainium brought the heat, EH was new to me but oh so good and I knew it couldn't have been anything else, JD also recognizable.

Separately, killed WT 101... left one pour to initiate the Infinity bottle.

Opened Blue Note to add to daily warm-up collection.

Would you believe that I have all but Balcones and Dickel BiB? And that is only because I don't like Dickel... and I've never seen Balcones.

Stuff I need to open Part 2, never tried any of it. Most of this is cheap. I can take or leave "finished" whiskeys. They can be awesome, a-la-Seagrass, but they feel gimmicky to me. The Bardstown is a Fusion 2.

I just opened a coppers craft and it’s delicious! It’s top 5 budget bourbons for me now. I’m gonna put it in a lineup against WT101, early times, OF rye, and OGD114

Backups! I've opened all the originals except the Frey Ranch Rye, which will be a Christmas morning pour. Really looking forward to that one. And I've not opened my first EC Toasted Barrel yet either. I had to move these from their prior location for a project, so I thought I'd take a photo while I was at it.

A little behind on my Flaviar advent calendar but today was the Frey Ranch bourbon. Nice pour and looking at the price point pretty sure I’ll pick one up in the future.

Finally got the Stagg Jr I’ve been searching for. I’d say $79 is a good price. Probably wouldn’t pay too much more just for the hype, but definitely wanted a bottle nonetheless.
First bottle? Or first time trying it?

Black Friday I got two at $60 each, plus my state 7% tax, free shipping. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the glass is thick on the bottles. Fuckers are heavy!

On the first day of Scotchmas, Johnnie Walker gave to me: Black Label.

I (re)learned this week that the 12 Days of Christmas is supposed to begin on Christmas. January will be a dry month for me, so I’m going to end my 12 Days of Scotchmas on Christmas.
On the second day of Scotchmas, Johnnie Walker gave to me: Double Black.

I had a bottle of the Michter's toasted Rye, EC Toasted, Woodford Double Oaked and just picked up an OF 1910 and I think it beats all of them for around $50 IMO.
1910 is fantastic, but the 2nd barrel is not toasted. It’s burnt to shit! Almost to the point of not holding liquid. I learned a lot by watching all of the Jackie Zykan videos that I could find. Hahahahaha

This is actually quite good. A delicious complex rye. It does not burn like what i thought 144 proof would, but there is some nice heat there plus the finish is LONG because of it. I think I will need to try it against Alberta, and maybe make an old fashioned with it sometime.
