This is 100% rumor (and not one I'd trust at all). Barrell sources their liquid from all over the world, and Willett (until somewhat recently) wasn't even distilling their own. They list the State/s of distillation on the bottles as well. I have selected a number of Barrell's private selections myself, and never once caught any of the signature Willett notes in them (nor do I believe Barrell would have 6-8 Willett distillate for sale for under $99). Food for thought!
There’s been Hirsch and old kirks that have been Willett juice and those have been in seen as low as $100.

Also here’s ADHD doing a blind of a barrel pick where he discusses this…

For sure. Hirsch just started rolling their six year age-stated products out. Barrell has a significant private release program, and has for years. Definitely not looking to stir the pot on this one, but I wouldn't put an ounce of faith in the rumor as mentioned. Could Barrell have some Willett distillate sitting around? Sure. I wouldn't rule it out, but I'd also be inclined to believe that if they do, it's more of a one-off and not something that an unsuspecting customer is going to stumble across. Just my $.02

Your ears must have been burning, I was just saying to myself that I need to check in and see if you tried it yet. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm always leery of "overselling" a bottle I really like, especially to those who have a whole lot more tasting experience than me :)

LOL!!! Burning indeed, Matt! LOL!!!

It took me a while to crack the bottle open. I did right before the holidays and I LOVED it!!! A couple of days after that, I travelled to Brazil to visit family I hadn't seen since 2019. Then I flew directly to FL, where I'm staying until March/April, so life has been a little disrupted, but in a good way (other than being away from all my bottles).

You didn't oversell that pick at all, man. It had a lot to live up to but it certainly overdelivered!

Mmmmmm

They started barreling their own distillate in 2012 and they have a super unique flavor profile. If my guy says it's possible, I'm willing to roll the dice for $100. I love all of the Willett offerings (even the pot still and especially the distillery only BIB) so I'm willing to gamble. I had a flight of 4, 7 and 15 yo at Bar Willett back in June so hopefully I can confirm the rumor, yea or nay.

buddy I dragged along on my hunt actually picked up a bottle of this. He reported back it was really good and he liked it.

Hard to argue with BiB Heaven Hill.
Big fan of the rittenhouse BiB, my favorite mixer.

2022 hunting progress. No .4 this year. I do have the 2022 10 year on order, maybe a few weeks out.View attachment 858809

That’s a great pick up.

I’m usually a fan of the .3s better than the .1s. The .2s are either great or so, so to me.

I’ve been drinking those since the 6s (my favorites) but skipped the 11s. Got the 12.2 and 12.3 but have t opened them yet.

Looking forward to you opinion on those!

Let us know how you like them. I love my 11.3.

I've only had the 12.1 so far. It was really interesting. Smokey of course but then came back a few minutes later for another taste and a lot of the smoke was gone and just citrus and birthday cake and wonderful. I almost didn't want to drink anymore of it because it smelled so freaking good.

I've had a dram of random Octomores before, but this is the first time I've ever gotten my own and actually been able to have all of one years to do a:b:c comps. I like the idea of having 2 variants off a base. Reviews seem to be very focus on 'I like this finish' so I'm fully prepared to not like one of the variants. Criticisms are a lot around the cost or as always 'this previous edition/distiller/blender was better', but no one says it's bad.
