Come to the meetup and I’ll bring a bottle
I’m assuming you’re talking about the upcoming Alpha Shootout. Unfortunately, a newly started job last month won’t allow for that much time off already. I’m gonna try hard to get A day off to participate in our New Riff tasting. I greatly appreciate the offer though!

PS…I’d trade for one, but I’ve seen some of the bottles that you post about…I got nothing you’d want  :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO:

Please comment on that. My local had a few of those still on the shelf. I loved the single barrel bourbon!

It is damn good and worth buying. Makes a good old fashioned too!

Tonight we (the royal we) had a blind three way Russell’s Reserve Private Barrel showdown! In addition to my 2020 bottle, two different bottles from 2021 were put into the melee! Special thanks to @Pinkdan for the two bottles I was lucky enough to add to the cabinet!!! After scrutinizing a 2 ounce pour of each (I like larger sampling pours), I came to the conclusion that I’d happily drink any of these without hesitation! Here’s my take for tonight and I acknowledge that this order could change on any given night.

This is great…no question. The only thing holding it back is the shortness of it’s finish compared to the other two. I got a nice earthy nose that opened up to a nice light caramel and vanilla. The ethanol was definitely there to let you know it has some proof to it. The earthiness continued into the palate and the caramel made a brief appearance. The finish was comparatively short, but still had a nice bite. I had this one before thanks to
@wolfpack ,so I knew which bottle this pour was from. Still very very good!

This is my 2020 bottle. I knew from the first whiff that it was mine. It’s my favorite bottle over the last 2 years so I better recognize it. Heavy caramel and oak on the nose. Slightly less ethanol on the nose. This has the most classic bourbon profile with delicious caramel, vanilla and the barrel char really shines in a good way. It’s finish is long, spicy and the flavors I get in the sip continue long after swallowing. I still love this bottle but it’s not my favorite anymore.:wow:

This bottle is awesome! If the Notorious F.I.G sticker on it didn’t give away what I was getting ready to have, the nose eliminated any doubts! This bottle took me back to my childhood growing up at my grandparents house. My grandfather had fig trees and upon nosing, I was taken back to a time where I smelled fresh, ripe off the tree figs all summer long. I won’t lie…I actually got very emotional. The nose was sweet honey with a hint of berry and had a slight bitterness to it that screams fig! First sip was liquid figs. That sweet honey and berry were in full force and it had a nice long finish with a great spicy finish.

Three great bottles and a flashback to some of the happiest times of my life made for an awesome night…THANK YOU AGAIN

I always love a good blind three way

Looking for a fast response. Yay or nay??

Try before you buy. See if they have one that’s open. It’s probably some of the better dickel juice you can get but you gotta like that taste. I personally don’t. But it’s fun to have either way since it’s so different.

Also, there’s a lot of those single barrels out there so there’s gonna be a lot of variety which is why ideally you try first

I read it as well. I am out for the tasting unfortunately. I will say that whoever is shipping can ship mine and @Poker Zombie together, and possibly even @Pinkdan.
Brilliant idea. Anyone know where to get heavy duty shipping boxes? Those help when shipping multiple bottles. And always tape all the corners of the box too! The worst is seeing a box break open

After deciding I like Stellum Rye, I decided to see how much is left in town. Only 3 bottles, so I grabbed 2. 35 bottles total for the state and 24 of those were in one city. Glad I checked!

I’m gonna bring down some bottles to share to the meet up this week. Some folks are interested in scotch so looking for some advice/affirmation. Sounds like highland is covered with Oban, and I know @detroitdad likes the Islay.

My “bag” only fits 4 bottles and don’t worry about the limited stuff. I’ve got one of each already bunkered.

Speyside sherry finished easy sipper.
Cask strength Lagavulin for that classic Islay.
Octomore to demonstrate what peat can really do.
Compass box orchard house which smells just like apples and is totally out of the box as a blended scotch and is my wild card.

I could see replacing the compass box with a different compass box, spice tree or menagerie, or something even more main stream scotch but I’m pretty happy with the other 3.

Thoughts?

Please keep the Lagavulin and the octomore. I'm not familiar with the other two.

Lagavulin 16 is probably my favorite scotch.
