@Billy Baroo
what the fuck did you send me, i can't feel my arms. maybe i shouldn't have pregamed my pallet like I did.

#1 nose: cigar smoke, earthy, high proof, opens up to a orange peel citrus.
taste: mild on the front, cinnamon and char on the middle, citrus on the finish and dry. really long finish with a tingling on the tongue and cheeks, and amalted flavor. I am thing this is a high rye.

#2 nose: much lighter on the nose than #1, barrel char
taste: baking spice, oaky, oily.

#3 nose: this is the best nose so far. nutty, dark chocolate, high proof, dark currant
taste: very smooth, pumpernickel bread, not as complex as #1, oak, oily with full mouth feel, medium finish between 1 and 2. drinks very easy.

#4 nose: cherry, lesser proof than others, vanilla
taste: dry on the front, cinnamon and oak on the middle, slight spice on the finish, short finish

#5 nose: cherry and banana.
taste: this is a easy drinker, dry finish witj m uch less spice than others a wheater? coco, medium finish with very little burn.

I did also throw in a rare breed for comparison
nose: nutty, cinnamon, spice, earthytaste: spice and char on the front oily full mouth feel, long spic finish, dark chocolate,

rank

rare breed would come in first, but from the samples best to last

#3 I would buy this
#1
# 5
#4
#2 I would avoid this.

now I am going to drink homemade mead and more whiskey and really get plastered,

,
I’ll start with this…3 of the 5 samples were barrel proof, so I’ll throw my rare breed ranking in with those. I love rare breed. Love it…it’s consistently great and typically available. I like all 3 of my samples better just because of the uniqueness of them or the difficulty to obtain. You should understand once you see what they are. Samples 1-3 are my barrel proofs, 4 &5 were 100 or less. But I’ll run them in your order…

5. Stellum Lyra (sample 2) store pick single barrel. 108.24 proof. I really liked this one. Great finish. The last pour went into the infinity bottle.

4. Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel (sample 4). 94 proof. This is my favorite double oaked offering to date.

3. John J. Bowman Single Barrel (sample 5). 100 proof. This is my Blantons beater. Buffalo Trace mashbill aged 10 years in Virginia. Enough said.

2. Woodinville (sample 1) Private barrel selected for NC ABC. 116.9 proof. I have yet to have a bad one of these. One of my favorites so far this year. It has a sister barrel that’s even better…and even higher proof! It’s also in the infinity bottle.

1. DRUMROLL…….1792 Full Proof (sample 3). 125 proof of pure bourbon candy. It’s hot, it’s flavorful and it’s finish goes on for days! Very tough to find here…and yes, it’s also residing in my infinity bottle!

you will not be disapointed, this is better than many whiskeys with a higher price point.
Wow this was FANTASTIC. seems like a great value at ~$65 by me. I also picked up a backup rare breed bourbon for $49.

So my wife thought I was downstairs on a live chat comparing whiskies when I was doing the blight flight tasting.

so it got me thinking

would anyone like to do a facetime/livechat tasting comparison? if so I would be willing to give my number for a compare.

if so let me know and i would compare! I unfortunately have anyone to compare notes with in real time.

Does anyone else prefer the Smoke Wagon Small Batch to the UCUF? Just curious, because I think I do....

I personally love it. It has beaten mwnd in a blind tasting for me.
I’ve never had MNWD, but I don’t particularly care for wine barrel finished whiskies. I have had their Rendezvous Rye, which I believe is MNWD before it hits the finishing barrel and it’s awesome!

I’ve heard varying opinions on the Stellum Rye from great to plain awful.

I haven’t cracked mine yet, but it’ll be my second bottle of that particular barrel. I really enjoyed the first one.

Midwinter Dram is a mixture of I think 3 ryes with varying age statements up to 17 years... I know what you mean about the wine barrel finished whiskeys, I don't care for the mostly either. But Dram is a completely different story. It's nothing like any of those.

Didn’t know that about the MNWD…probably because I’ve never see one on the shelf in NC:confused

I’ve also seen what they fetch on the secondary market, so I’ll most likely never try it. My buddy gets the Rendezvous Rye up in Virginia occasionally and I’m perfectly fine with that.

In many ways, the whiskey market has mirrored the poker chip market. Chips that used to be acquireable now always have to be purchased on the secondary. Bottles that you could easily find on the shelf only three or four years ago now have to be held back and only given to special customers.

I'm sorry to hear you can't find Dram. It's relatively uncommon in New Jersey as well; at least being out on the shelves. Luckily, I have a good relationship with my local booze dealer, so I'm usually able to get it when it arrives for about $89 a bottle.

I'm kind of a bourbon freak, so saying that Dram, which is a rye, is one of my favorite bottles of all time is saying something.

Rendezvous is very good as well. But seeing as though I'm not a huge rye person, I typically don't go for it.

Come to the meetup and I’ll bring a bottle
