Anyone using the Sipn Bourbon app to keep track of your bottles? I can't figure out how to move bottles between shelves (Top Shelve, Mid Shelve)

Someone just gave me a bottle of Four Roses...how do you like it?
I'm such a n00b that I'm not really qualified to describe or review it. It's not as smooth to me as the Angels Envy or the Maker's Mark, but I do like it. I think I'm still adjusting to the bourbons with higher amounts of Rye in the mash. Angel's Envy has rye too, but I think the finishing in port casks may smooth it out some.

I’m always interested in finding the answer to someone who is starting to enjoy the water of life, “what do you mean by smooth?”

I'm a relative n00b as well. I've been drinking bourbon for about a year and I like what I like but can't really tell you why LOL. However, I have found that bourbons with higher amounts of rye such as Brother's Bond, Four Roses, Basil Hayden, Jefferson, etc. I am a cigar connoisseur (over 20 years), so if you ever need a recommendation for a good cigar in any price range. Feel free to PM me :cool

Ive been drinking bourbon for 7 years and smoking cigars for 15 years, but I couldn't tell you all the nosing and flavor notes of either. I'm like you, i'll try it and i either like it or not. I wish i liked cheaper cigars and whisky though =T

I'm primarily a wine drinker, and a vodka drinker. I can detect subtle flavors and tell you the differences, but at the end of the day none of it matters if you are drinking it alone. It's only when paring it with a meal that the flavor notes are important.

Since I rarely drink bourbon with anything else, the flavor profiles doesn't matter as much as "this is good", "this is better", and "this is great".

I wish I could give a better description. Possibly less of the the spicy and pepper notes that come from rye? It's just a mouthfeel thing that says this one is more harsh. and this one is more smooth. I don't think it's just alcohol, because Maker's Mark cask is quite a bit higher proof than Four Roses. Unfortunately I'm traveling right now, so I can't taste the Four Roses. And who knows, when I get home it may taste completely different as the only bottle I have with me right now is the ECBP I picked up in KC driving up here. It has a lot going on and is very high proof, so definitely not in the "smooth" range.

I'm going to the store later today, so I will pick up something that will probably be in that smooth range. Probably something wheated. We'll see what they have.

Smoothness for me = no jet fuel burn, so it’s easier sipping.

So… there’s not much better than a store texting you to say they have in Weller 12yr… and they are $63 with tax… and you can have two.
