@JustDave

The store I visited today did not have a great selection of bourbons. I didn't have time to go hunting around to more stores, so I ended up selecting this bottle of Larceny Small Batch. We will see if my theory that wheated bourbons are "smoother" will hold up. I'll open her up later tonight.

I wish I could give a better description. Possibly less of the the spicy and pepper notes that come from rye? It's just a mouthfeel thing that says this one is more harsh. and this one is more smooth. I don't think it's just alcohol, because Maker's Mark cask is quite a bit higher proof than Four Roses. Unfortunately I'm traveling right now, so I can't taste the Four Roses. And who knows, when I get home it may taste completely different as the only bottle I have with me right now is the ECBP I picked up in KC driving up here. It has a lot going on and is very high proof, so definitely not in the "smooth" range.

I'm going to the store later today, so I will pick up something that will probably be in that smooth range. Probably something wheated. We'll see what they have.
smooth is a thing that is super hard to describe, but we know what you mean when you say it. 'I know it when I taste it'.

With the Angel's Envy, there are just a lot of great flavors and no harshness. Probably helped by the port barrel finishing. With Maker's Mark, there are less flavors, but it just doesn't have any harshness. They are very different, but both are more smooth to my palette than Four Roses. Which is not to say 4R isn't good, because it is.

Time to join the ECBP club!

Only planned to get one but then figured it might be fun to have the B521 to compare against the A122 and eventually a C922, all side by side. I’m certainly not expecting to taste a difference right now but am interested to see if I ever do! My guess is no, but I’m willing to do it in the name of science!

Two solid bottles!

Went on a bourbon run. I'm hunting the Makers BRT bottles. Also some barrel proofs. I found both EC and Larceny barrel proofs on the shelf, the stock came in today!

Every bottle of both was B522. So I'm like

did I get in a time machine and it's June 2022 again? Waste of a trip.

We still have A122 and B522 on my shelves here. We are always behind.

I’m a little tipsy and feeling generous. I’m gonna have a bottle give away soon. Since it won’t be chip related I’ll post it here.

I’m going to forget I posted this. Someone remind me Monday

I promised a giveaway but since it’s not chips I’ll just post it here.

Whoever can name my first real set of chips after dice chips I will send them a bottle of something delicious. Must name manufacturer and theme. Giveaway is only for CONUS since I can’t ship bottles internationally.

ASM that had a Motörhead inlay. That was your first real clay set.

You also had a BCC Highroller Cash Set, TRK Deadwoods Tourney Set, and TRK rounders!!

Has anyone done a barrel aged old fashioned or Manhattan?

I have a new 2L barrel curing now (filled with water) and a 3L on order.

My plan is to use the 2L for a maple old fashion. Was going to do 2 bottles of buffalo trace and 170mL of maple syrup. I don't plan on adding any bitters to the barrels and to add bitters when making the drink.

For the Manhattan, was going to do 2 bottles of, most likely a Wilderness Trail rye store pick, and 1 bottle of Antica Formula Vermouth.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Nicest whisky I’ve had to date. It’s a college apartment that’s not mine so I tried to conceal the paraphernalia present, but obviously failed because the bowls are out on the left. I’d be surprised if anyone can tell where I hid what they go in though.

Whiskey was really good though. Only thing comparable was a bottle of Dalmore I had a little from.

In Milwaukee for the next couple of months so picked up some bottles to establish a least some bar in the Airbnb. Here’s where I’m at, I doubt I’ll need more (the quantity of cigars I brought on the other hand….) but we’ll see if I can resist buying more.

First time trying New Riff, need to give it some more tries before I attempt any opinions but not a bad first impression.
