Easily one of the most under appreciated pours you can get!
There’s no mistaking the 2yr for a classic Beam product. There’s peanut on the nose, palate and finish. It’s obviously lacking the nice oak of the 15yr, but it’s youth isn’t that obvious. Might be the nuttiness overpowering the youth, but it’s surprising how good it is for being only 2 yrs old. I’m very impressed with both pours for what they are! Thanks Scott for giving me the opportunity to side by side these! You got a Col.Beam coming your way so you can side by side them. I think you’ll be surprised!@Saoliver sample #3…Hardins Creek Jacobs Well…15yr 108 proofView attachment 1016662This is exactly what I expected a 15yr old to smell, taste and finish like. It’s super oaky with undertones of sweet caramel, cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg on the nose. The oak is significant on the palate with sweet raisins and a bunch of rye spice coming on strong. The finish starts off fairly sweet until the oak, spice and a nice heat comes along and starts to dry everything out. At the very tail end of the medium long finish, I finally get a faint hint of the Beam nuttiness. Quite frankly, I wish it was a bit more noticeable as I really like the Beam peanut funk but this is a great pour!
I will have a few sips of the 2yr Col James B Beam before I finish the 15yr to compare these two new bottles from FredView attachment 1016667
Sample #4…Old Pepper Finest Kentucky Oak Rye View attachment 1016696Admittedly, I knew nothing about this brand other than a few of you on this thread praising this pour…and for good reason. This is terrific! This was pretty obvious that it’s a toasted/double oaked bottle and I think it’s the best one I’ve had to date.
This would be a great dessert pour…just the right amount of sweet on the palate along with the rye spice and mint you get with the nose. Finish is all spicy rye and leaves a nice sweet almost root beer aftertaste. Hopefully this will become available around here because I’ve yet to see anything from this distillery so far. Definitely the best toasted finish bottle I’ve had so far!
I did! He hooked me up big time with some great samples of stuff I’ll probably never find locally. And yes, it’s a fantastic pour!Did you get that from Scott? Its a great pour!

Very nice. I heard from my store yesterday that their case price cost jumped up from $300 to $600 this year! Meaning my price is likely around $220 The are getting in both Act 10 and the Encore. I don’t know if I can swing $220 for them. Luckily, I still have 1 1/2 bottles of Act 9.
I've been getting MWND for years at about $90 from my local stores that know me. This year, however, the price on this was $150! I knew the MSRP jumped to something like $130, so I was kinda expecting it. I have heard of $200 in some other stores around here. It's getting harder to get at a price I can deal with, and that saddens me. Come on High West, don't go the way of all of my other favorite brands!Very nice. I always have a handle of Evan Williams Bottled In Bond on the shelf. Buffalo Trace was on sale at Costco and I have 3 unopened right now. I think I may need to open up one of my bottles of Old Forester, it has been awhile but they sure are tasty."Best bourbons under $30, according to this expert

Inflation is real and the world is expensive, but that doesn’t mean your spirits have to stay down. Actually, there are several decent bourbons on the market for $30 or less.
Earlier this year, world acclaimed bourbon expert Fred Minnick – in a completely unscientific study – asked his audience of bourbon connoisseurs to vote on the best bourbons around $40. More than 5,200 bourbon lovers responded. He announced his fans’ picks in a video that he published on his YouTube channel, and then later Minnick ranked the Top 10 of that list in a blind tasting.
We took a closer look at his findings and picked out some big bargains among the throng. Turns out, you can get a quality bottle of bourbon for as little as $16.99. Here are a few popular bourbons, in price order, to try if your bar cart is running low while you’re pinching pennies this year. Prices may vary among retailers, and the prices in this list are based on the October 2022 listings at TotalWineAndMore.com.
Old Grand-Dad 114
Retail: $26.99
Delicate and smooth for a bourbon of its strength, Old Grand-Dad was ranked No. 7 by Minnick’s audience. Meanwhile, Minnick ranked this No. 1 in his blind tasting. The nose on this bourbon is earthy and Minnick says it features scents of a fresh-cut tree branch, slight pine, cornbread, maple syrup and caramel. He identified the palate as 'very grain forward' and that this bourbon is a 'surefire winner if you love your grains.'
Elijah Craig Small Batch
Retail: $25.99
This Heaven Hill product has a complex flavor with notes of vanilla bean, sweet fruit, and fresh mint. At 94 proof, Elijah Craig is smooth and warm and it has a pleasant woody component with accents of spice, smoke, and nutmeg. Minnick’s audience ranked this bourbon No. 5, and it came in at No. 9 during Minnick’s blind tasting.
Buffalo Trace
Retail: $23.49
Buffalo Trace can be tricky to find in Louisville, but it’s almost always on the shelves 50 miles to the east at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. This deep bourbon’s aroma features vanilla, mint, and molasses. It is pleasantly sweet on the tongue and it has notes of brown sugar and spice. Minnick’s fans marked Buffalo Trace No. 3 on its list of value bourbons, and Minnick’s blind tasting put it at No. 6.
Old Forester 100
Retail: $20.49
Brown Forman‘s Old Forester 100 ranked No. 8 by Minnick’s fans, but he put much closer to the top of the list at No. 4. This bourbon has a rich, deep nose with hints of cornmeal and cocoa. It’s been called 'powerful but refined.'
Evan Williams Bottled In Bond
Retail: $16.99
This Heaven Hill product rank No. 9 by Minnick’s audience and No. 8 by Minnick himself. The Evan Wiliams Bottled in Bond 100-proof bourbon has a caramel nose with hints of vanilla, oak, and barley. The palate has citrus on top with vanilla and black pepper on the backend, followed by a warm long and dry finish."

Chances are good that if you like all of the others on that list, you’ll probably like OGD114. Certainly my favorite of that list although the Old Forester 100 is real solid too!

Never seen this in wild around me, it had to pick it up. Probably overpaid, but oh well. Had the C barrel proof, but wanted $99. I passed.
