Batch 17 is amazing imo. It’s my favorite stagg jr batch I’ve tried
I've never had to chance to buy a bottle, let alone see one till about a month ago when I was browsing a couple liquor stores near me. when I saw it I was like finally then he said 399 and I said for a bottle that retails 50-60 no way. If he would have come down to 200 I would have probably purchased it

Just got word that the next barrel release from my local spot is Weller 107. Can't wait to try that one, last release was Eagle Rare 10 year. I have about 6 bottles from them that have been great. ie Blanton's, Weller full proof, knob creek single barrel, ER10 and regular BT. Side note I'll be on the look out for Noah's mill on my next total wine trip
Nice! Store pick 107!!! Lucky you!

My son who is a bar manager was just telling me the liquor store he buys from asked him to go with them on a barrel pick tour later this year. I think it's 6 days and at least 6 different distilleries to make a store pick selection from each one. Obviously he is stoked to the moon about this and I am too as I'll get the opportunity to purchase one of each selection.:love::love:

I’m not convinced that any of the store picks around me were tasted or selected by anybody. I think they buy whatever random barrels they are offered. Glad to see that others are not suffering the same fate.

These IKEA FRASERA glasses punch well above their weight for £1.50 each. Perfect for an Eagle Rare, maple Old Fashioned. Cheers, friends!

PA and Total Wine DE picks are crap. I like the standard offerings a lot more and they're cheaper!

Talk about a trip, holy cow I would love to do that!

I had my first "Toronto" tonight, and I think I might have a new favorite whiskey cocktail:

2oz rye or high-rye bourbon (I used WT101)
1/2oz Fernet Branca
1/2oz simple syrup (demerara recommended)
2 dashes Angostura
stir on ice to chill, garnish with lemon peel

I also had my second Toronto tonight...

The results of todays shopping trip. Thanks to all you guys for the great suggestions.

So yeah... The Compass Box is OUTSTANDING. I'm not usually very good at identifying smells and flavors, but the moment I poured it, I was blasted with pear notes. So fruity... So smooth and clean. I could kill this bottle in about three nights if I wasn't careful. Definitely going back for backup bottles.

The Orchard House is super crushable. Makes an awesome summer evening drink. I'm also not a big blend guy, but they do a really solid job. A bunch of their regular stuff is worth picking up if you need something in that space. Glasglow Blend and Artist Blend go right down home plate in their respective places for scotch. Spice Tree, Peat Monster and the Spaniard are all Scotch variants but again, good expressions of those styles.

I don't mix scotch, but I have some friends that do and they say that if something calls for 'a peated scotch', Peat Monster does a good job of doing all the things you want from a peated scotch and none of the bad things. The rest of that core line does the same in their space.

IMHO stay away from the limited edition stuff. It's something you try at a tasting and if you really like it get a bottle, but just getting a bottle to buy doesn't make sense with how hard they are to come by and how insanely expensive they are.
