What a rollercoaster of a week. Earlier this week my coworker passed and that was one of the lowest I've felt in a while. Today I found out one of my close friends got his kidney transplants early this morning. The hospital called his wife late last night and he went in right away and they did the surgery. Celebrating this second chance of life! Starting the week on a great high note.

Dinner at one of the great restaurants in America tonight -- Rasika, in DC. Capped off by generous pours of Amrut Fusion, which tasted remarkably like Glenmorangie 18.

I've had Amrut before, but generically identified. Rasika had five distinct Amrut bottlings on its whisky list.

Further research is clearly required. Any knowledge here?

Ah:
"Amrut Fusion Single Malt Whisky is a marriage of whiskies made from peated Scottish barley and unpeated Indian barley. The Indian barley, nourished by the waters of the Himalayan mountains, is grown in a region known as Punjab (meaning "the land of five rivers"), where the cold winters and fiery summers create a unique quality of grain, rich in nutrients and flavor. The malted Scottish barley, which is dried over a peat fire, is imported from Scotland to India.
With subtle notes of peat, vanilla, chocolate fudge and fruit, Amrut Fusion was rated the third best whisky in the world by Jim Murray's Whisky Bible, scoring an incredible 97 points in 2009.
"There is demand, but we can't service it," says Jagdale, Amrut's Chairman. "We cannot accelerate the maturation process. A good whisky can never be a mass product.""

Bardstown Bourbon Origin Series bourbon, 6yr old high rye mash bill, 96 proof, $45+tax

Sampled neat. Very solid for the price point. 4 stars out of 5 stars I'd say.

I've made a 1/3 year's resolution to drink more 1 ounce samples at the end of my day, and to open more of my unopened bottles. So today I did that.

I cracked the first Midwinter Night's Dram Act 10 (Limited Engagement). It was awful. I have lost all faith in humanity...

Sorry to hear that it was disappointing. I saw a bottle of that this weekend at a local liquor store with a ridiculous markup. Glad now I didn’t get it.

A proper photo today.

Bardstown Origin BiB wheated bourbon. Aged 6 yrs. $49+tax. (The 3rd bottle is just hitting shelves. I do not have one. It is the Bardstown Origin Rye. It is finished in a zebra cask made of cherry and oak staves both. It's a bit more expensive at $70.)

No notes yet since I haven't tasted it. The aroma is better than yesterday's. I will note that I can detect wheated bourbon aromas, and I have an affinity and predilection for them. So take that for what it is worth.
