Anybody had any of these aside from Lag 12? First time I’ve seen all of the Diageo specials together

Glad you got some. The prices were fairly reasonable too…

Yep not bad at all, and I can NEVER find the Larceny BP. One of the main whiskey guys noticed them in my cart today and chuckled - apparently some kind of coding / computer snafu made them put these on the shelf this time, normally they go to their "special" customers first. Must be $10k+ a year plus to get on that list lol. Bank error in my favor I'll take it. lol

The Diageo's in general, I've had a number of them. If you like the distillery they are interesting pickups, in particular the Clynelish. If you aren't, then no.

The two Lagavulins, the 12 is just this years barrell strength 12 year. I've been collecting them a while so I picked this one up too, but if you have other years, you aren't missing anything. Lagavulin 10.... is better if you leave it in the barrell for 6 more year imho.

Color: Darker than hay but not quite amber, the tiniest hint of amber. In the glass has very thin legs.
Nose: Islay, for sure. Clear peat smoke, salt water, none of that rubber or heavy medicinal. After the smoke the overwhelming smell of salt. On the nose not a high proof, I can go totally into the glen with my nose and don't get a back off burn.
First taste totally neat: Whew, okay, there is the proof. Lots of peat, lots of salt, no fruit notes, no meat or cheese.
Finish: Smoke and salt. Over salted BBQ maybe.

Round two nose: Most of the smoke is gone, getting just honey, salt, some sweetness, almost stinging the nostrils sweetness, cotton candy smell. Starting to smell vanilla.
Taste: Sweet, really nice. Some vanilla deep in there.
Finish: dry, more salt and pepper, very interested in drinking more.

Not much of an evolution past this point. Added a few drops of water, but it didn't improve, would probably prefer neat. As proofy as it seems I'm glad they didn't proof it down to mid 80s like normal, it would have lost a lot.

My guess would be it's clearly Islay. She's a proofy gal, I'm gonna go 120 proof(but a gentle 120 or my nose is just too scarred over to notice). Not ardbeg or laphroaig. Doesn't strike me as Lagavulin or Bruichladdich, I've had too much of them and they aren't in that same vein. I'm gonna guess Caol Ila given the smokey profile that doesn't fit the other's I'm used to but I've got almost nothing to back that up. No idea on finished. She's over 10 for sure, under 20.

A really interesting dram and I've never had one quite that salty before. I really enjoyed the experience and it'd be a bottle I'd own but I wouldn't put it into a regular rotation nor would I drink more than a single glass of it in a sitting. It's an afficianado's bottle for sure. Something to share with Scotch fans 'interested in trying something unique.

A very very interesting dram. You’re right on about the Caol Ila guess and right on the nose (pun intended) at 120 proof.

I am a big fan of Caol Ila and what stood out for me here is the sherry casks with the Caol Ila smokiness and saltiness. Not something they do a lot and a glad addition to the collection.

Not sure if you’ve checked the note on what it is yet. Here’s for others:
This is the Caol Ila 2023 Feis exclusive which I picked up on Islay a couple weeks ago at their open day.

Had these two pours at a cool little IB in Singapore the other night. The fino Sherry Caol Ila was wild, so much Sherry flavor without much sweetness.

It finally dawned on me that I needed to peel that back and read it.

Thanks for sharing, what an awesome bottle. I didn't get ANY of that fruity forward jammy sherry cask, if anything, maybe some of just raw sweetness. Did they say what kind of sherry? PX?

Salt for days, still have some swimming around in my mouth/nose and gonna pop a tums before bed to avoid any heartburn.

The ECBP B523 was very tasty, more on the bright and warm side, with some spicy cinnamon to complement the usual sweeter vanilla & charred caramel flavors. Very solid.

This is more my jam. Darker, richer, more oak barrel char, but with sweet vanilla and baking spice undertones as well. Long, bold finish.

Nice! So you prefer the B larceny over the B ECBP ?

Slight edge but yeah, which is saying a lot because I'm a huge EC fan. They're both excellent and pretty different, but first sips give the Larceny the edge.

Probably could have made that more clear lol.

It’s a mix of Olo and PX. It’s a cool one.
