Sampled this at my local home game. Is this supposed to be any good? I don't trust my own palate but for a $40 barrel proof store pick it seems pretty decent.

This is an interesting comment to me. I get it because I don’t think I have an advanced palate, but if you like it isn’t that enough. I actually enjoy some pretty mundane bourbons though and I am more at home in the cheap bourbon thread.

what you like to drink and how you like to drink it, that's all that matters

I'm pretty early in my bourbon journey, so the purpose of my comment is to hear what others who have had this think. I enjoy looking for and reading reviews and comments from others to help me in discerning specific notes within different spirits. I have bought many good bottles based on comments from those here who have more experience than I do. I've also bought bottles that others here like, but I didn't, so it's not like I'm basing my opinion on the opinions of others. I'm just curious and I enjoy the conversation. And because I'm budget conscious, I also enjoy finding bottles that are an excellent value.

Allow me to restate:

Has anyone else tried this? What are your thoughts? In your opinion, is this (including the regular, non store pick version) a good bang for the buck bottle?

I don't have that exact bottle but I have a bottle of single barrel old scout and like it.

My local store picked 3 different barrels over the last year and a half or so and all three were very good…especially at the $35 they all sold for. I’m a huge fan of MGP’s high rye bourbons anyways. Barrel proof store picks at that age and price are very rare around here.

Their last pick was a 6yr old barrel that was fantastic and an absolute steal at that price!

Yeah I was hoping I didn’t sound like a dick in my comment and what you said totally makes sense. I have been drinking bourbon a long time, before it was cool I think. But I always drank stuff like Jim Beam and for me Gentleman Jack was pure class lol. It’s funny because I have a bottle of GJ in the cupboard right now!

Scored a good price on some B523 at the liquor store next door. First time back to the beach since my wife had surgery. Toasting to her recovery and also to my brown bear who loved the beach and passed away just over a year ago.

Nothing major, but Amazon Prime Day prices on these were too good to pass + I needed to stock my cart for the first time anyway.

First time trying, but this goes hard for the price:

Got a cracking little bottle shop that sorts me out, too. Going to be stocking up on Weller (mainly 12 at $63) next week, but have also been offered some Thomas H. Handy by them, too. What's a reasonable ceiling price on the latter? And is it any good?

Can you not in the USA?! Eagle Rare was $47 delivered and, not sure what Buffalo Trace is going for Stateside, but that's $26 delivered.
Liquor laws in the US vary state by state. I know there are some companies that can ship it to some states, but the ones I've looked at won't ship to Texas. And I've never seen it on Amazon.

I’ve been known to overpay for Handy. But I would say a good Handy is worth $400… though I have paid more.

Alcohol laws in the USA essentially became a state regulated thing after prohibition ended, with some counties and municipalities also creating some laws. Even something as big and powerful as Amazon I would doubt could manage alcohol sales without regularly violating that patchwork of laws here, so they just stay away.

Anyone a member of Jim Beams Barreled and Boxed club? Just got notification the summer release is headed my way. Definitely never had these before. Wasn’t a big fan of the regular Legent. Interesting to see what this one is like.

Has anyone had any experience with Michel Couvreur special Vatting? Have had some incredibly interesting and polorising bottles from him.
