They have state controlled liquor stores like PA. We vacation in OBX every summer and the best bottle I've found is Rare Breed...not that RB isn't good, just widely available everywhere.

Yeah, that blows. I went to grad school in Philly and liquor stores (and their selection) were the worse I've seen.

MI is not great either as the state controls minimum prices but it's way better. For bourbon it's not horrible. For Scotch, pitiful.

Ohio isn’t great either. Where are great locations to pick up bourbon and Scotch? May have to take a road trip.

IN!! LOL!!!

It varies, David. Depends on the brand. As you know Weller is aplenty in OH but not just a few minutes north, impossible to find. Eagle Rare, the opposite.

New York always has good stuff and prices but usually store don't ship. Can had great selection but prices are kinda high.

I buy 9 out of 10 bottles, maybe even more than that, online. :p

Going to try not to spam the thread. But, I took about 20 pictures at the liquor store of new bourbon, or bourbon that I think is new. My goal is to identify the good stuff without having to buy every bottle and try it myself. Online reviews are pretty useless. Anybody know *anything* about *any* of these?

I tried a sample of the Balcone's single barrel the other weekend and I thought it was good, but I don't know if it $70 good. I have heard really good things about the Balcone's baby blue, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Supposed to have a unique flavor due to the roasted blue corn.

I can get Weller’s when I’m in Ohio next week! Anyone know of someplace close to Columbus that carries some?

Unfortunately it’s allocated, so it used to be that I’d have to show up at my local store and wait in line when I knew the shipment was showing up. Not sure how it works post pandemic.

If you are up for the drive we have a crazy place here in Eastern CT...never would guess it from the size, but the owner is a bourbon/rye/scotch aficionado. Just took a trip there today for a private tasting...her hand picked single barrel selection is amazing.

How was the whistle pig 15 and the garrison???

Both were fantastic. The owner has some crazy relationships with these distilleries...that 15yr is actually a custom blend between 2 single barrel options.

That sounds incredible! Awesome to have a connection like that!

Hi there, I’m new to whiskey but I’m open minded. My buddy told me I should start with Elijah Craig and make some old fashions to get into it. Good idea?

I had a hard time thinking a bourbon from Texas could get it done, but with barrel and mash acquisition these days it’s all up for grabs.

She has a single barrel coming from Kings county that i was able to grab a taste of her sample bottle she brought back...absolutely incredible. Sadly won't be shipped to her for another 6 weeks or so.

Do you want to dip your toe in with a mixed drink or start off with straight whiskey?
