This weekends bottle.
Though my go to is Laphroaig 10 year. Especially on these chilly October nights.View attachment 545470

For me, the higher ABV on the Laga 8 puts it above the regular Laphroaig 10 imo. Both very nice nice (and different) drams.

I hope you're enjoying that bottle. Interested to hear your perspective.

Picked these two up today. Will post my thoughts after having the neck pours and the second pours some time later.

Forgot to mention it, but I got offered a Whistle Pig 15 while I was at the store today too. Yeah, not paying that much. Also turned down a Calumet 14, which was still a 3-figure price tag, but just barely.

The whistle pig 15 does carry a hefty price tag.

great idea!! I live in TN too so there’s plenty of whiskey to be found :sneaky:

Where you at in TN? We have a whiskey tasting club at the cigar lounge that will resume tasting when the COVID dies down some. We in northeast corner of Tennesse tri cities. You also need to be able to handle some smoke as it is a cigar lounge.

Hi there, I’m new to whiskey but I’m open minded. My buddy told me I should start with Elijah Craig and make some old fashions to get into it. Good idea?

Elijah Craig old fashioned is a fantastic suggestion for starting IMO. If you wanted to drink neat or with an ice cube or two you could also start more tame with a Canadian or Irish whiskey, which are usually "smoother" in my experience with less extreme flavors.

Very cool! Yeah a whiskey tasting experience is definitely what I need. I’m located in Murfreesboro

You should try to find a group somewhere. We normally sample 5 bottles in a night and meet once every other month. The leftovers go to the Christmas social which is basically a reason to get drunk for free with leftover whiskey, and try not to think about the Amex bill the wife running up.

Since when does Lagavulin have an 8 year expression? I've only ever seen the 16 around here.

I believe that 2016 was the first year it was released for their 200th anniversary. The 16 is my favorite of their bottles in terms of price/value, but the 8 year is just a little bit behind it. The 8 year is much more in your face than the 16 in terms of the palate, but I find it loses to the 16 on the finish end where it doesn't have as many of the complexities. The 16 is still the bottle I grab if I'm looking for one glass at the end of the day to unwind and really get lost in something.

Still can’t find blanton’s in the Metro Detroit area. Want to enjoy a bottle I’ve been holding onto for a while but always need a backup first.

This baffles me, I am used to having a decent selection here in East Tennessee. While I can’t run down to the local store and grab 4 bottles I am sure I can find 1.

Hate you guys are having a hard time finding what I would considered everyday whiskey.
