Poker Chip Shipping Tips and Tricks (5 Viewers)

saran wrap? aluminum foil works much better; keeps the chips tight. first wrap in paper towels.

First time I posted about an issue such as this but this one was too shocking not to. Received a purchased packed inside of a SFRB that had added protection by way of Padded Priority Envelope. I was really surprised at how far this person went to not only open the packaging but, in the end, leaving all the contents inside. Mind blowing really.

This bastard not only cut open the padded envelope, but also ripped open the box, then proceeded to rip off the tape on the canister. Didn't like what he saw and left it all in there. I've yet to find out if the writing "Received Damaged" was made by the post office at their facility or by my mailman. I'm going to ask him tomorrow. If I receive this without that writing, I just assume that someone peeked inside of my mailbox then put everything back. The fact that it had that written on the outside indicates that it was more than likely a USPS employee. Pretty disturbing and I didn't think that I would witness some of the recent stuff that others were reporting. Granted, I dodged a bullet and the goods were received, meanwhile others were not as fortunate and received empty packages or none at all.

In summary, even when something is packed very well in order to protect its contents, it seems like people can still have enough determination to get into the core of the package. I used to be against using a bunch of packing tape on the SFRB that's placed inside of the padded envelope, but after seeing this, I'm going to make sure it covers as much of the box as possible in order to make it really difficult for someone to just rip it open. Recommend that others do the same. Heck, we might as well tape up the outside of the padded envelope as well. Going to go through more tape, but much better than letting some prick rip right through it.

If I had ES chips in the mail and received a package in that condition, I would have shit. Literally, shit and slumped onto the floor.

I'm glad your chips arrived safely.

I gotta wipe and clean up now.

Guess the guy was looking for ES cash chips not the tourney ones

Sorry that happened though brother. What a total bummer that people do that kinda shit. I’m happy they didn’t take them

I didn't read the whole thread but it seems using a doubled up Large Flat rate box, I can fit ~15 racks with a little space left over. Boxes will fit wall-to-wall on the longer dimensions of 12" x 11.75" and have a small gap on the height of 5.5".

Forgot to mention the weight came in under 34 lbs with 15 racks.

I’d use that extra space to pad those really really well around all four walls, ceiling and bottom. Also, you’ll probably want to reinforce the outside along all corners etc with tons of tape. LFRB’s have been known to break open when overpacked

I’m never comfortable with an item so close to the edge of a box. I’ve seen too many boxes arrive with a gouge or a section ripped open.
I prefer a box within a box, and a buffer of crumpled paper or styrofoam peanuts between, especially with something heavy.

Personally I’d feel a lot safer with those chips spread between two boxes. I think it’s less likely something could go wrong with more room for padding and less weight. Unless the chips are worthless, I wouldn’t be trying to save $20 by shipping them in one single box.

In order to obtain max capacity without sacrificing safety, 9 is the magic number for LFRB. Three rows of 3 stacked in the middle with padding underneath such as two padded USPS envelopes. Painters tape N to S as well as E to W, forming a cross in the middle and keeping the racks from moving around. Peanut packing around their perimeter along with top layer and one should be good to go without going into several different types of packing material.

If you’re really worried about the corners and don’t have access to old foam corners from furniture shipments or the the like, roll up padded envelopes and use them as columns in the corner while cutting them down to fit the height of the box. Instant corner pads.

Admittedly, it is a very long thread. It would be a pain to sit and read through nearly 786 posts to figure out the best way to ship something that clearly fits.

That's 786 posts of experience. 786 posts that cover 10s of thousands of miles worth of mailed chips. Some posts tell of chips that made it to their destination successfully, so you know which methods work. Some posts share sad, catastrophic failures that detail which methods have failed; shared with the community so others would not suffer the same misfortune.

It would be a pain to sit and read through nearly 786 posts. It would be a much bigger pain to know that a damaged (or lost) package could have arrived safely if you just read 786 posts.

Anyone order this in their shipping supplies yet?

I’m curious what I can use it for, and since I ship low volume, and singles…. I’m interested in using the supplies, and putting it in a SFRB. One stop shop in supplies!

I ordered some of those, but oddly only received the boxes. But they're the thick heavy-duty kind, which is great. They also don't have any printing on the inside, so you can turn them inside out and use them with any service.

Well, that’s one way to deter people from opening your package...

Except USPS employees who have a fetish for cremated remains. Which I’m pretty sure is 95% of all postal workers.

This poker chip trick was on me. Granted, they're not expensive chips, but what kind of moron would put two Matsui racks into zip-lock bags, throw them into a large FRB with zero padding, and ship that way?

Yes -- jewelgiant, on eBay. Beware!

But after getting your 17th package of "cremated remains" in a month, there will be an investigation into your "hobbies".

Can you use that packing tape on flat rate boxes? I know the tape has something printed on it, and I thought there were some restrictions on what kind of packages it can be used on, but maybe I'm remembering wrong...?

I’ll go look at it in a few

USPS updates...I really liked the regional boxes, guess I will need to order some of the cubic ones and learn how to use them.

Here's what's going to change on January 22nd:

  • Zone 1 & Zone 2 are splitting! There will now be different rates for the destinations closest to you (within ~50 miles) compared to the destinations a bit further away from you (around ~51 to 150 miles).
  • Priority Mail Regional Rate is being discontinued! But don't worry—shipping those packages with Priority Mail Cubic will be cheaper anyways You can keep using any "Regional Rate" branded packaging you've still got, just enter the dimensions and weight like any Priority Mail branded mailing box... but we always recommend cutting the box down to make it as small as possible so you save even more treasure!
  • First Class Package rates are staying around the same cost on average. There are some small changes for each rate, with some shipments getting up to 4% cheaper and some getting up to 4% more expensive.
  • Priority Mail is getting cheaper with up to 11% decreases! And since Pirate Ship gives you access to secret rates that are BELOW the standard Commercial Pricing rates, you'll save up to an additional $1.67 This makes Priority Mail continue to be the best way to ship with USPS, with their most reliable delivery estimates and $100 insurance coverage included for free.
  • Parcel Select Ground is also seeing similar decreases... but since it's much slower than Priority Mail, we only recommend it if your shipments aren't time-sensitive.
  • Most international rates are increasing. Simple Export Rate continues to be the cheapest way to ship internationally, even with its rates increasing an average of 6%.

You’ll LOVE the regional rate boxes. I guarantee it !

I can fit over 3 racks of chips in a box and it costs less than a SFRB. Depending on where it’s going.
