Tangiers and the Quest for a Tina Hybrid Faux Inlay (52 Viewers)

I just bought 2 of these at the weekend. So I’m pot committed to being rash.

Why is this case still empty @Cratty ?

I'm loving watching this journey :D

@Cratty did you end up building a CMYK->Tina chip colour database?
I haven't yet - photo color accuracy has been challenging. Thinking I need to get a book of color swatches.

Edit.. good news, family has a couple pantone swatches no longer in use. Will grab them over Christmas when I see them. This should help better identify printed colors.. and hopefully correlate better estimates.

All good, also how did you get Tina to produce and send photos of samples? According to Justin they don’t do that
If we are going to be ordering something in large quantities they will make me some samples before hand. Small one-off sets though they will not produce a few beforehand

I think there was somewhat of a poll earlier in the thread, was it decided if these will be available in 39mm & 43mm or just one size?

A few more questions about options @Cratty @justincarothers
  • Will there be customization possibilities? If so, what might this look like?
    • Eg, is textured inlay possible?
    • What about changing the $25 to $20 denom?
    • Is no mold an option?
    • The reason I ask about $20 is for the smaller stakes sets. I recognize not all denoms can satisfy everyone but changing the $25 does strike me as a subtle change that makes a big difference for $20 vs. $100 buy ins for cash games.
  • Will a DB option be possible at the same time of the set purchase?
I’m considering gifting a small set for my cousin, looking forward to this. Thanks y’all

Don't see any issue with any of the above options (textured inlay, $20, alt mold). I will also have a dealer button ready - yep!

My intention is to also setup the art files to make customization a bit easier as well (e.g. chip color/inlay shape changes), but we'll have to see there.

Following, with $ ready… read all the posts, but it wasn’t clear to me if the final decision will be web mold or custom Tangiers house mold… or both?

Custom tangiers mold, but no reason you couldn't order on web instead of you choose.
I prefer the Tangiers mold (well done!). Go big or go home, right?
I’ve found the faux printed molds to have lots of spinners (i.e. Bally’s).
Sounds like you’ll reach the 20k chip threshold… I’d be in for 800-1000.

Unsolicited feedback: On the mold, not sure if the sword “t” of “tANGIERS” can be made bigger due to space limitations, but maybe consider making the “ANGIERS” part a skosh smaller to give it more relative difference and emphasize it as a sword rather than a lower case letter?

Nice work!

Edited last post re: the sword “t”. But I’m still in no matter what.
I never even thought about that before, but see what you're saying. Space was limited though and reducing the size of the other letters definitely would come at a legibility tradeoff.

That said.. too late now - mold already made. Ha

Good news/bad news... first photos in from Tina. Chips look beautiful! But inlay color matching on first round not great on some of the colors (at least by photos).

The red, purple, pink, and dark blue are more off than expected (but frankly these are the chips that I expected to be the biggest challenge).. need to get back in hand now (on air expedite) to see if I messed something up and can tweak to get closer in a second test round. Not thinking we pivot yet to round inlays.. lets see what we can do to improve.

There will always be color variation in chips and inlay printing that will never make these perfect, but believe some of these can be controlled better.

Edit: Disregard the below, not representative of colors or spots in some cases.. need to have rerun for a few reasons.

Wow - the matched ones look really good. You convinced me. Appreciate all the work you put into this.
