Theft, chips (4 Viewers)

I actually installed SimpliSafe yesterday. It uses a cellular signal, has battery back up, and is wireless. For $15/month they have monitored service, but you don't have to use it, you could just use as an audible alarm. For $25/month, you get the text alerts and remote arming, so I can set the alarm from my mobile now if I forget. I liked that I could make it as ridiculous a system as I wanted, I added glass break sensor, water sensor, freeze sensor along with fire, motion, entry sensors. I can also add more as they expand the system, think they are adding cameras soon, and you buy it so I can take it with me if I sell my house, attached with command strips so easy to remove the sensors. I liked the Panic button on the bedroom wall, but since it is wireless, you could easily put it under your poker table if you needed one there, or get 2 or 4 or 10, whatever you need. Just have to hold it for 2 seconds. Only thing I am not happy with was the "yard" sign, which was a sign, but nothing to put it on, need to get a stake at Home Depot.

I already had cameras, but wanted a networked alarm as well. If you want a "refer a friend" discount, PM me your email.

Call me paranoid, nothing wrong with a bit of caution.

I have SimpliSafe at my business - it is great. I use the sensors to monitor my controlled drugs. You simply attach the sensors on cabinets and drawers and get text alerts if they are opened. I'm sure you could use the sensors on a birdcage of chips to monitor if it is moved.

What did you see? (I'm curious.)
This is going to make me seem REALLY paranoid. But it was a newspaper circular on my front doorstep. We don't take the paper. Circulars are NEVER left at our doorstep, and none of my neighbors got them (I asked). The timing, at the start of a 3-day weekend, with delivery early on Saturday morning, just seemed really strange. If I had left half-hour earlier, that circular sits on my doorstep for the next few days, and whomever left it there can be pretty certain I am not home.

I just had my place broken into while at work today. Luckily my neighbor confronted the two who were taking my big screen out at the time and he made them put that back but they took off with PlayStation, laptop, LG sound bar and a few other things. Luckily my chips were all left untouched!
The building manager got them on video and the truck and plate on tape. Police are on their way shortly and hopefully they can identify them and get my gear back..

Holy cow, Spike! So sorry that happened to you! Glad you had a good neighbor, and sounds like the police have some good information to go on.

Also good to know that they didn't go directly for your chips.

Perhaps I should buy a PlayStation, laptop, and sound bar...

Kidding aside, I hope you get your stuff back. What a personal violation!

We have a few "extra" items scheduled on our homeowners policy. It's only a few extra bucks/year (ymmv depending on insured value, obv).

By scheduling the chips on a rider, you eliminate any deductible as well as picking up much broader coverage. A homeowners policy names specific perils that cover against loss; the rider's perils are significantly broader (mysterious disappearance, misplacement, etc.) A standard homeowner's policy covers against theft - up to a certain limit - as well as fire, tornado etc. but all subject to the policy deductible.

When determining a value of the chips, you should insure them for how much it would cost to duplicate them at today's prices; not the value that you paid for them (unless it's very recent). If you don't insure them for their current value, the insurance company will cut you a check for the value stated on the policy, in the event of a major or total loss and you'll be out the difference in you decide to replace the collection.

That sucks to hear.

Hope you get your stuff back or insurance comes through.

Police just left again and said they have suspects.. Going to arrest them today more than likely. Hopefully they have my stuff their with them..
They went through my chip cabinet too because my card setups were all misplaced and such.. Idiots didn't realize their was a 250 dollar rounders chip sitting right there in an airtight and easel lol... Close one!

Spike - where was your attack cat during all the commotion? Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about the situation, but it sounds like it will be resolved favorably. I can't stand jerks who have no respect for other people and peoples' property. Lock 'em up and throw away the key as far as I'm concerned,

I'm sure cowering in the closet....

Just depends if the jerks sold my stuff already. If they haven't I should be able to get it back.

There are still 500 Olivia Poker Hall chips missing that were stolen from a car in Hawaii. They were in a bag and stolen as part of other belongings that were taken. My guess is the thieves saw the chips and were like "meh" then tossed them out since they had no immediate redeeming value to them.

He's a wimp, but at 175 lbs he'll scare off intruders.

Looks they just took what they knew they could easily resell. That's probably why they didn't grab the chips...most people have no idea what they are potentially worth.

I hope you get all of your stuff back.

Funny enough, I sold the chips that were stolen, and a replacement set. I forgot who the buyer was, but he told me about them being stolen and wanted to buy another set. I am not sure why they would be in a bag since I shipped them in a "Kwality" 500 chip aluminum case that Spinnetti threw in for free to me when I bulk bought the olivia chips from them.

Regardless, sorry Spikeithard, too bad your neighbor did not call the cops before confronting them, might have gotten them sooner, but good that you have a neighbor willing to say something. I hope you get everything back and can feel normal again soon.

PS no, I don't have any more olivias. Every time I ever mention them, someone always PMs me asking if I have any to sell.

Man oh man! All this stuff has me wondering if Liftapint has averted a disaster here by being so cognisant...I cant help but feel that the rash of stolen chips lately are all connected. Is John Boy UK actually in the UK? kinds gets you wondering. I wouldn't mind knowing generally where Dazzler lives vs Lift's address.

I'm looking to install an alarm system at my house. Any recommendations? I've been reading about Front Point Security and it seems like an interesting option. Basically, a modular, wireless, install-yourself cellular system with central alarm monitoring like the big boys, plus smartphone functionality. Upfront ala carte pricing on sensors, so you buy what you need, and $35-49 per month for monitoring (depending on how much functionality you want).

Has anyone used Front Point?
