Things that make you Happy (9 Viewers)

My son getting excited to see some full sized hot wheels......

View attachment 946379View attachment 946380
At his age, my ultimate fetish was truck wheels. I even wanted to be a truck driver.
I even distinguished between smiling, friendly ones (mostly Volvo and Scania) and grim, unsmiling ones (mostly MAN and FIAT).
Imagine my enthusiasm when an uncle came to visit us in a Volvo truck. I rushed to touch my fetish, only to be lightly burnt (the wheels were still hot, due to the brakes):)

Needed more barrel time.

No wifey/romantic partner nor kids, but have so many chips. Was up 600 on tables at the Mirage, then felt like playing slots at the Bellagio. One machine I had 100 in, out 1705 at 7 am. Then enjoyed the conservatory. Overall went to a few casinos to grab chips, up 3k for the day.

Well that means, I can bring home 3k extra worth of chips home. This was a real nice surprise and I was as happy as kids grabbing so much candy at a candy store.

Hop harvest day! Not the greatest crop this year but considering how little rain we got (and how little maintenance watering I did), I’ll take it.

my wife grows these (and never uses them)
they are out control and go everywhere
but this year we cut lots off
just a perennial weed IMO
maybe I should eat all the buds (?)
or maybe get the essential oils from the still (ask for pics I will provide) ;)

Yep if left alone they grow like weeds, often minus the cones. You need to trellis them at least 8-10 feet to get a decent number of cones.

Personal Ben Book*** Yee Be Warned!!

So 6 years ago I ended a huge chapter in my life, broke up with the Ex, met Brie and life was amazing... other than folks on social media were not very happy with my "life decisions" so both Brie and I walked away from every form of Social Media like Cold Turkey... just turned it off and never looked back. Of course there were people I cared about but hey "you have my #,call me if you need me" I went from a guy that spent every weekend at kids Bday parties, baby showers, wedding parties... you name it and I was there... to absolutely not one single invite to anything...

We found PCF and you guys all became our friends and family! (Obviously other than direct immediate family). In that loss was a family with 2 daughters that our family had all but adopted, the girls and their parents had become part of our family. Every single holiday including Thanks Giving and Christmas they all celebrated with us.

With our departure from social media years went by and I never heard from Mrs. Allie a young woman I called my sister. She had a little girl that called me uncle Ben and another in the womb and the last time I saw them was 6 years ago at the second baby shower... they had my # and I had theirs... but we faded apart and I just assumed they hated me, never clarifying or even trying to figure it out... it was just easier to live without... but it hurts with the kiddos man.

So this past weekend my cousin at age 28 married his GF of 9 years, I introduced them to each other all those years ago, they now have 3 girls and decided it was time to officially tie the knot. His Bride was life long friends with my "sisters" and it totally slipped my mind until I got to the wedding and young Izzy which was 2 when I last saw her, and the unborn little girl was now 5 years old... I literally melted standing in my shoes, fighting back tears and hating myself for allowing this much time to have escaped me, looking at the 2 most adorable little girls I had ever seen!

Both Allie and Husband Kyle came straight over and gave me a huge hug... all this time lost and they thought I hated them, and vice versa. All over nothing! How freaking stupid!

(Sis Allie, husband Kyle, the girls, Grandpa Mikey right infront of me)

After the wedding the girls ran to me on the dance floor and the youngest just wanted to dance with me... I had never met her before but she knew I was "Uncle Ben" I dance with her on my knees and she literally gave me the biggest and best hug of my life. Her mama caught this in pictures and sent me this yesterday.

Life is too short amigos, get over your pride if you you have a similar story. This one will have a happy ending, but dang I hate myself for time lost!

Absolutely Beautiful Wedding

To say I was happy would be an understatement... I found a piece of me that had been missing for a long time!

i do not advise doing this
hops are an herbal sleep inducer
Valerian - Skullcap - Hops
---my fav nighttime blend
During the week I only chew after work at home so that wouldn't be too big of a deal
Good to know though

[I really thought there was a "post awesome things you're doing" thread, but 30 minutes of searching came up dry, so either blaming my poor searching skills or remembering something that didn't exist, I'll put this here.]

Meet Norman.

AD-Norman.jpg

Norman is a 4-1/2 year old Harris's hawk. Norman likes soaring, chasing and eating small cottontail rabbits and quail and serving as an outreach ambassador for a local raptor awareness "hawk walk" program.

I got to meet Norman, his associated human and canine assistant this past weekend.

Probably 25 years ago, I looked into what it would take to become a licensed falconer. Between several older books and the still adolescent internet, I discovered it's quite a bit of work and takes a great deal of time and put the concept aside. I'm still fascinated by the cooperation between a mostly wild animal and a person that goes into this. A local friend had done one of these hawk walks when she went to England this past spring and had discovered the group here that does the same thing.

The program was great, involving a lot of information that I was unaware of or has evolved since I had last looked into falconry. There are only about 4000 licensed falconers in the United States. It's a two year process to get licensed that involves an apprenticeship with an already licensed master falconer. To keep up conditioning and have enough food on hand for a string of bad hunts a falconer will be out roughly every other day hunting and only 20% of attempted "hunts" by the bird are successful (our walk came up with nothing after 90 minutes and three attempted hunts that came to an end because of rapidly approaching darkness as a real-world example.) If your cat goes missing, it's probably a dog or coyote and not a hawk as a one pound bird isn't interested in your 9 pound cat that will fight back. The falconer that ran our session said that he doesn't like using birds like Norman for jackrabbits as those can get to 5-6 pounds and prey that size can actually injure the bird!

I could go on, but suffice it to say, it was a really cool experience and one I'll likely do again at some point in the future. I also haven't completely dropped the possibility of taking this on as a hobby in the future, but it's going to be quite a while and definitely when I have something more like a normal 9-5 job and not nights away from home for extended stretches. Definitely something for retirement for sure.

(My hawk walk was through these folks if anyone in the area wants to do this: )

That's brilliant, but have they been watching Chainsaw Man?? That sure looks like Denji (fanged teeth and all), and that's some serious varsity-level watching for a lil' one!

Also, that's about 1000x better than I could draw. I'm limited to stick figures and even those look like they've been in an accident.

Yup. He’s my youngest and his older brothers really wanted to watch it. I told him he shouldn’t watch because it’s kind of scary and gory but he insisted and ended up loving the show.

Damn......1000% better than anything I can do. Gotta admit, never thought I'd be jealous of someone still on training wheels but I am.

Nicely done.
I'm thinking all his artistic talent comes from my wife since even stick figures are tough for me to draw as well. Drawing was always something he was very interested in and he'll read books on drawing or will watch youtube videos on how to draw while his brothers are playing games or watching anime.

That's awesome, support/encourage that interest wherever you can as he gets older. My younger son was very similar, he was always drawing and used YouTube quite a bit. I used one of the pieces he did in grade school on a bounty chip for my DDLM set a few years back, he was so surprised/proud that it really kicked his interest even further.

He's 13 now and in G&T art and learning a bunch of different techniques and styles and has gotten pretty damm good for his age. This past year I asked him for some inlay artwork for an upcoming project, his first paid commission :) If nothing else, it gets him off the video games and gives him another hobby/outlet for his energy.
