Yeah. But we’re still all in the same hobby, so making them the enemy isn’t really productive. Maybe we listen to them, they listen to us and we come to some level of understanding. Even if we disagree.
What does productive entail for you?

Botton line: I want Oscar to keep making videos, and I don't care about something that looks like it came off an AOL disc.

But them FAKES!

No kidding. You'd have been like "What is this moldy Win-95 website? Why are people yelling at me? Do I need to download Netscape Navigator? Why are half the pictures sideways?" There is nothing warm or user-friendly or inviting about TCB. It has its uses, and there are some good people and great transactions to be had. But it is a terrible introduction to the hobby in the 21st century.

Also... I don't understand - are these people collectors or businessmen/investors? If they are collectors, shouldn't they celebrate hoard discoveries and such?

I don’t think that Oscar is going to stop making videos just because a segment of the hobby gets cranky.
Dismissing them because their website sucks is juvenile and ignorant. I’m pretty sure there’s a whole bunch of them over there who have been in this hobby for decades. I don’t know about you but I bet a few of them could teach me a thing or two. So why make them the enemy?

We're speaking past eachother because we see this hobby as very different. My hobby is hosting, playing, and dealing poker. Theirs seems to be buying specific chips and being excited about those chips, and being upset at anything that devalues their chips. I'm sure I could spend time there and learn more about my side of the hobby but again: the websites not just ugly, its prohibitively bad. Impractical lol.

I haven't made them anything, speaking an opinion on how their representative here acted and the posters interacting with Oscar.

Again: almost definitely different perspective because they have no use to me. I'm not seething about them, I won't go there to argue, just rolling my eyes here.

I don’t mean to be addressing you or accusing you directly, you’re just the guy I hit reply to.
There’s just been such a growing “us against them” sentiment lately (much of it due to the Chipguide copyright annoyingness) that I just mean to speak up against it in general.
They love chips, we love chips, there has to be some common ground worth exploring.

Based on their interactions w the photo citation and this dudes FAKE take, no interest. Tell them to shut the antiquated site down and conform to PCF.

Fair, I appreciate you clarifying, that tempers it.

I agree that the original spark was the copyright silliness of saying legal action may be had, then when many of our members (consecrated to the rule of law) said "lol no", they plead for doing the nice thing. If they'd started with that I'd have a lot more sympathy.

Agreed, but it’s not like @ChipGuide ’s interactions over here indicate a very constructive approach (as opposed to Oscar’s over there). So we’re just reacting to his ridiculous demands

Yes, no doubt. I just really love the approach Oscar has taken with them (now and over the past year or two.)
I’m gonna change my signature to
WHAT WOULD OSCAR DO?

Rules are rules. They would have to have a mail-in vote to change the procedure away from mail-in voting. Stop the steal!
Guy on chipboard told me today mail him $5
He was afraid of PPF&F
Over $5
It’s like a 10% surcharge for me just for the envelope and stamp the PP FEE is better at that point

You can’t make this shit up over there

I don't think this statement should go unchallenged either:

"As a Caribbean chip collector I find these Fakes to be offensive, they cheapen my collection and make it less likely that others will collect them knowing that there are fakes out there."

I call bullshit. Prove it. And asking two of your CCA BFFs their opinion is not proof.

I think "fake" or "commemorative" chips don't affect the singles market at all. And I think "fake" racks of chips make it MORE likely for set collectors to collect a set. As in PNY 25c and 50c chips, or Aztar Caruthersville $5 chips, or Aruba Palm Beach $1 chips.

I can fully agree on this. Finding the real chips is the real challenge when they aren't out there, but if you are lucky enough to find them then those looking for them will pay a premium to have them.

my 2cts.

@Okku, Thank you for the videos!

The obvious answer is obvious... leave CCA behind... create a new club.

1. We already have a President. (Oscar, for those not paying attention)
2. A sizable Legal brain trust that can create whatever organization needed. (profit vs not for profit)
3. PCF has a massive pool of potential club members.
4. Countless creative techies that can come up with a website.
5. I'd be surprised if there are no organizers out there in PCF universe.
6. A roundtable of leadership with our meetup hosts
7. Enough opinions to help define a Club purpose.
8. A FORUM! Perhaps a PAID Club membership Forum?
9. The resources are here on PCF... just gotta tap into them.
10. Dealers will follow the money. (Should someone host a Convention or Extra-large Meetup)

Respectfully,

A collector of singles & sets.
