What are you listening to? (6 Viewers)

I kinda fine with it. If I said I wasn't I'd be a hypocrite because so many of the artists that I love have ripped off or covered other peoples music before them. Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Who etc... I really haven't heard newer bands covering older songs because I literally just don't come across them. I stopped listening to the radio 10 years ago and I don't watch television anymore lol.

I can tell you, when I heard Metallica cover Turn the Page I wanted to vomit. I really hated that :p Guns and Roses covering Knocking On Heavens Door is a good one, also Live and Let Die. I'm trying to think of more recent ones but I just can't come up with any.

Because I'm a bit younger than you, I'll be 42 in exactly 6 days, I didn't have a chance to see many of the artists I listen to, not in their prime anyway. I never got to see the Dead in 89 when they came to Orchard Park, I was only 11. Didn't get the chance to go to Toronto in 94 to see Pink Floyd. Page and Plant came here in the mid 90's, couldn't go. I like to see some tribute bands on occasion. Musical Box is a great cover band, seen a few Floyd cover bands, Grateful Dead cover bands. Those are all pretty cool.

TLDR: Yeah, I'm kind of OK with it.
Ok Jim, here's another one. Give these kids a listen and tell me if they don't remind you of a certain Pre 1980 band we all love! These are originals, not covers of old songs. The singer and guitar player are twins. And the BAD-ASS bass player is their younger brother.

Ah yes, heard them. Pretty impressive stuff man. My buddy, who knows I live in the late 60's to the 70's, had me listen to them. They really good, heavy Zep feel. I don't own any of their stuff but I've watched a bunch of them on youtube. I can get behind these guys, carrying the torch from when music was good and creative and not overly produced auto-tune rubbish. The live stuff is where it's at :) Thanks for bringing them up. I forgot to mention I heard them. Wow, actual guitar playing!!! ;)

Great stuff! Especially the second one. I've heard people speak of Billy Strings, but somehow hadn't yet gotten around to checking them out. Had I had ANY IDEA!!! what I was missing. This is really good stuff. Now I'm going to be spending the next hour or more diving the the Billy Strings rabbit hole on YouTube!

Yep, pretty sick stuff. Not my usual genre of music but they are super talented and very enjoyable. When I first saw that, both videos actually, I got all sweaty and hot. Sounds gross but that that's when I know it's really good :)

Here's another favorite of mine that took me a long time to find. It's the version from Without A Net, my favorite version and track from that album...

Absolutely my brother. We need more of us around these days. Those guys peak out Dead songs like no other cover band I have ever seen. Including Cubensis and Dark Star Orch, unreal

That was a fantastic track. I think DSO is my favorite Dead cover band. Seen them a few times around these parts :)

Don't bother me right now! I'm on my Billy Strings Journey!!! LOL! :D The live show from Sept 2019 at Red Rocks is superb!

Seriously, I will get to those. Maybe not until tomorrow though. Given my age, you may be surprised to hear that I have never gotten into the Dead. Not really sure why. I have all my favs from each decade, and I usually focus most of my new attention on finding awesome current bands. Again, probably due to my love of live music and finding and supporting truly talented young musicians who don't always get the attention they deserve.

Last one for the night. Another band I was introduced to about 12 years ago I never knew existed and have fallen in love with. You may or may not have heard of them, but they are great :) Here's a great rabbit hole to fall into. Look for the movie Dig! too, very entertaining!

dude I am sorry My last for the night too -- I know I already posted this, BUT REALLY??

here it is -- I currently am on Deal, a song I covered in my band

Hell yeah, I remember I was 10 years old at the time of this concert. My cousin lived in Orchard Park not far from the stadium and I could hear the concert from his house. I didn't really know who they were at the time but I knew it was a big deal as some of my older cousins had gone to the show. We just messed around in his driveway playing basketball and listening to all the music and cheering. One of the best shows of 89' :D

Red or Blue it just don't matter. The gangs in DC will never die, just multiply

LOVE Joni Mitchell. You don’t often see covers of her songs, because no one can touch her. But this girl...this girl is pretty good.

And a few from Eva Cassidy, because she was so good. And I’m in a mood for a sentimental female voice.

And these damn Swedish sisters are so good.

One of the best live performance there has ever been. Listening to the official release of all the nights but this is the only official footage from these nights that I know of. Shame it's incomplete. Duane was a true musical genius.

Hey @buffalojim, thanks for posting this! Killer Dreams and Whipping Post. Don’t think I’ve ever seen this footage. Duane playing his classic tobacco sunburst Les Paul of course.

Allman Bros were one of the great “jam bands” of all time (besides GD). Saw many incarnations of this band but never with Duane.
