What are you listening to? (5 Viewers)

Hey @buffalojim, thanks for posting this! Killer Dreams and Whipping Post. Don’t think I’ve ever seen this footage. Duane playing his classic tobacco sunburst Les Paul of course.

Allman Bros were one of the great “jam bands” of all time (besides GD). Saw many incarnations of this band but never with Duane.
You're very welcome. This is footage I come back to time and time again. It's a pure gem. There's so little footage of Duane before his untimely passing and this ranks as the best IMO. Dreams is killer and Whipping post is probably the highlight. For me, my favorite song from these nights is Stormy Monday from the 2nd night and the 2nd show from that night or the version from the double album which is an edited version, it's just ridiculous. Duane had incredible feel, brings tears to my eyes. The Fillmore recordings are some of my favorite live recordings of any band, which rank right up there with The Who Live at Leeds and The Guess Who Live at the Paramount. I'm excluding all live Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead as those belong in a different category for me, with Floyd being my favorite.

:)

Yeah, Live at the Fillmore East lauded as one of the greatest live R&R albums of all time, and for good reason. The old TBone Walker Stormy Monday is classic.

Your avatar reminds me that Europe '72 was the first live Dead I ever heard when I was about 15 when I got it for a Christmas present back in '92 or '93. I fell in love instantly. I immediately went out and got Live/Dead lol. I'm running out of ways to describe how great I think things are but Live/Dead, more specifically Dark Star and St Stephen>The Eleven opened a space in my brain, with the help of a certain psychedelic, that I didn't know existed. Beautiful stuff, I wish I could go back to those days.

LOVE Joni Mitchell. You don’t often see covers of her songs, because no one can touch her. But this girl...this girl is pretty good.

And a few from Eva Cassidy, because she was so good. And I’m in a mood for a sentimental female voice.

And these damn Swedish sisters are so good.

That Joni Mitchell cover was excellent. Some of these young people on youtube are pretty incredible. This girl's intonation is pretty great :)

Some of the greatest guitarists of all time have played with ABB. Duane and Dickey of course, but also Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. Heck even "Dangerous" Dan Toler was a damn good player.

Yep, I was lucky enough to see them with both Warren and Derek back in the 90s and early 2000s. Both are excellent musicians. I bought the concert on CD right after the show when they had Instant Live as a thing. Shortly after that I just started recording all my own shows using some stealth mics. Not SBD quality but I like the live audience sound better anyway. Probably from decades of listening to live recordings of Floyd, which are almost exclusively audience recordings.

OK, I'm sure this has been posted before, but it just popped up on my Pandora, so it's "What I'm listening to."

Heard it a hundred times and I still get goose bumps every single time. One of the most amazing and emotionally powerful songs (especially for a cover) of all time.

This is a Nine Inch Nails cover, right? Not familiar with the original but I'm sure this version is superior... it's fucking Johnny Cash.

Yes, Warren is a great player. Butch Trucks’s kid, Derek has turned to be a good player and has seamingly studied Duane’s style and technique.

Hey man, that's insensitive. My hands ARE bananas, Yoda is my back pack, I am always looking at my horsies shlong, it IS going to be a long night, because I AM waving my dick in the wind while singing buenos tardes amigos, I happen to love blue balloons, I am having a transdermal celebration as we speak happy and joy joy as fuck because there is a poo and wee song in my future which is only because I had a big bag of crabs in my mouth. Why the fuck are all these badgers wagging there arms?

rad guys, awesome. I leave ya tonight with this. SALUTE THE COLONEL!
