We all hve different tastes, and thank goodness for that! Many times we all enjoy similar things, but sometimes there's a chip that everyone thinks is outstanding but you look at it and scratch your head in bewilderment. What are chips do you not understand the appeal?

For me it's the Bourbon Street $5's and the Aztar Missouri hundos. People rave about them, but they don't move the needle for me.

For me it's the stardust mansion chips. I'm blown away with how much they sell for every time. While I like bright colors I'm not a fan of the inlays and the edge spots are boring. To each their own though. :)

Anything 312, 316, 314 or bigger with three different colored spots. Foxwoods dollar comes to mind. 323? They look like error chips to me.

318 tri color on a bright white chip I can see, but that's as far as I'll go.

{edit} that being said, the Mapes 100 ^^^^ actually has a pretty nice tri-color scheme. Ugh I think I have to take back what I said now. Should just delete post... oh well...

For me, it's the King's Crowns, with the text printed on a different curve than the label circumference. I cringe every time I see a picture of those things.

Can't get into:
Chips with edge spots in 3's. I can do 2, 4, 6, 8, but not three.
Most green chips just aren't my thing. I struggle with them every time.
Solids and hotstamps are not a big thing for me either.
Most ceramics. I just don't feel a darn thing for 99% of them.
Oak Trees and Aztards
PCA primaries (secondaries are amazing)

Ok, now this is going to get ugly:
Mapes - do less than nothing for me. I do not like them. Sorry. I know.
The new Bellagio, but mostly because I love the old ones so much.
Cali colors. I like the standard colors if I have to choose.
Triple spots. Like CPC 3T316 pattern. Paulsons variations are usually less than exciting for me. There are exceptions though.
The 2004 WSOP chips (the ones currently in use for deepstacks). History in my hands, and I hate them.
Most Paulson home market designs, with the clear exception of Le Noir
Secondary Grand Vics. Had a full set and hated the colors so much I sold them.
And finally, Fracs and snappers. I just do not get it.
Ok, now you know.

It seems almost universal that people who like hot stamps, start off not liking them. I guess it something that grows on you.

As for the OP, most of the ones I really don't like that others rave about are customs. So I think I'll just keep those opinions to myself. But anything with a giant inlay is bad voodoo in my opinion. They cover too much of the chip, especially bothersome on chips with edge spots. The more chip, the better. Maybe that's why I like hot stamps.

PCAs. I like them alright, but nowhere near as much as the masses evidently do.

PNYs. I get the allure if you're an NYCer or have some attachment or connection to the city, but otherwise, apart from the $1 and $20, meh.

To be honest, though, I'm not a giant fan of most of the widely available sets. Apart from a few select, rare sets, I'd take customs over casino chips eight days a week.

Playing with fire! You've got two people wielding the ban hammer that you have insulted with your post ;)

I almost changed my screen name to Mr. Terrible a year or so ago lol

Wait to you see what I put up for bid here soon. :x Need to make room "on top" of my chip cabinet.

Never mind, I just found the perfect spot on the wall. :p

I agree with butler on the customs > casino chips. Minty paulsons are nice when available, but I'd rather buy any of my favorite customs that have been made over the years over a casino set. Few casinos do as good a job as a chip nerd and a good designer.

I do like paulsons a lot though. If I could do custom paulsons I'd do them in a heartbeat.

I like how they handle but agree most sets are lacking in the looks department.

They seem to be very durable. Although every bud Jones chip I've played with at the casino always wants to stick together like they are suctioned to each other. Idk maybe it's a combo of the chip type plus dirt and grime on them...

I think soft plastic + hand gunk equals stickage.
