What chip do you not get? (1 Viewer)

It's a good thing that I have some customs for the Denver meat up since there is some serious hatred of Terrible's out there
Never mind, I just found the perfect spot on the wall. :p

Seriously "do not like this" button needed.

Plus I have zero use for chips that don't have their locations printed on them, like Empresses.

One of my few pet peeves is placing Las Vegas. NV on a chip that is "not" a true Vegas casino chip. Like putting Las Vegas, NV on them makes it legit or cool

Otherwise, I'm not big on photo style inlays (PNY's, etc..), cartoonish style inlays (Tiki's, etc..), giant inlays (lots), house molds (Bellagio, Foxwoods, etc...) that use plain font styles. Of course there are exceptions to all of these so I keep an open mind to all chips styles. I try to love all chips equally.

Although hot stamps aren't my thing either, the hungry frog chips and aztar tourney stamps both knock it out of the park.

And there isn't a chip out there that I wouldn't love if it was in my collection. There are no dice chips in my collection and I can say that of course these are chips I would literally not accept.

I'm not a fan of Casino injection molded slippery plastic chips, or coin-center chips ( Topless dice chips!), just because a few casinos here & there have Bud Jones nearly unshuffleable plastics, or clunky heavy coin center chips, doesn't mean I want to use those as my playable home set or have a custom set of those...

I think that the ritz and pny are good examples of giant inlays done well. Bahamias i did not care for too much. Samurai palace never understood why people like them. The GV sec are sone of the nicest around. The 100's and 500's are really cool...now if they had shaped inlays, they'd be killer.

I'm definitely not a fan of the PNY giant inlays with pictures. I'm biased, but I like the VIneyard giant inlays because they match the clay color so well.

Speaking of giant inlays. I like the PNY and Vineyards because they match like Inca said. One example that I think completely ruined a few of the chips in the set are the Crystal Park "oversized inlays with messed up non aligned "edge spots". What were they thinking trying to do that?!? The few chips in the set that they did that completely ruined would would have been an even more amazing set. I'd still take a set and I love my sample set but those goofy oversized inlay/edgespot attempts just look messed up especially when only a few denominations are like that and the rest are normal.

@BGinGA And would like to see a pic of your collection too

we need some goddamn pr0n. This request also goes out to @BGinGA , a master collection, but I feel like we dont see enough of his collection

Problem used to be no decent camera and lacking any photography skills (and no time or desire to get better). Finally got a decent smart phone with awesome camera, but still haven't taken the time to really learn how to use it (hell, it took me three days to figure out just how to answer the damn thing - true story).

I've been buying chips (big surprise, ha) and actually selling chips lately (hard to believe, I know), as I'm slowly paring back to just the stuff I want to hang onto long-term. Once I get things finalized and sets/projects completed, I'll post some worthy pr0n of the keepers -- I promise.

Teacher: "Give me a word for the letter "P"
Little Jimmy: " Plaques. Big Fu*in Plaques."

.. I'm not into plaques, & have never had the 'itch" to order any. They always seemed to be a continental Europe thing, for high roller baccarat or whatever ...
They have never been ( & I hope never will) be any part of the WSOP main event, or most US poker tournaments.. Chipstacks, not plaquestacks. Need a 25,000 chip , then call up Paulson, CPC, PGI, Game On, & get a 25K chip!! :)

I used to own some of these but meh, too slippery. There are prolly other chips I don't care for but none come to mind atm.

This might sound funny, but single chips rarely get me excited. I love barrels and tall stacks. Probably why I don't mind PNYs even though I don't especially dig oversize inlays.

I didn't like hotstamps when I first joined the community years ago, that still holds true today. I just think they don't look as nice as a quality printed inlay.

I also don't get the appeal for Mapes. I hate the look of the mold on them, and aside from the $1 chip which I think pops nicely, I don't care for the other colors in that series I've seen.

I hate Mapes. I cannot understand the massive love those chips get....I absolutely hate them. Seems like a bag of skittles thrown onto clay poker chips. Just too much.

ruins a perfectly good purple chip. I probably have 200 of them in my set, and I hate them all.

Also, not a fan of the Native American Paulson set, side view, nice chips, oversized similar looking inlays taking up most of the chip face so you can't tell what was bet, no.

Blasphemy

+1. Maybe someone should open a chip-breaking-in service.

I have that service.. everyone just ship me all your new chip sets.
I'll ship them back used*

*may take several years to get to everyone sets, but it will be worth it.. for me

oh and I don't like chips with edgespots.. or inlays.. or solids or hotstamps for that matter.. or any chip with a color.
The only reason I buy them is to spare others from having to look at them for too long when they are listed for sale.

Honestly solids and hotstamps aren't my preference, but I do get them.
My 1st real "clay" set were blank ASM HHRs, and most of those were solids.
Think I just prefer edgespots on chip stacks.
Hotstamps, not my favorite, but see the appeal.. I mean what inlays do you know of that reflect like a hotstamp?
There is something unique about that alone... that said, still prefer a good inlay to a good hotstamp.

Oh I've got a good one. Paulson Classics. Those super weird inlays (weird font choice, weird clashing color choice) look anything but classic. Plus the weak mold. How can it be classic when every aspect is a new, bold, but bad choice?

edit: oops megaton already said it
