What chip do you not get? (2 Viewers)

Crazy talk! You all must be posting while drunk or high. I love them all, God help me, but I do love them all.

We know this must be true because I have 15 playable sets waiting patiently for their turn to get on the felt and I am waiting to pick up two more sets if the opportunity presents itself.

DrStrange

I basically agree. IMO what we are basically talking about is chips that are over-valued (overpriced) vs their appeal to us personally.

For example, many people don't like the PNYs. Large inlays and non-traditional appearance plus they may have little to no attraction to NYC. I love them: absolutely minty casino Paulsons in great colors. I like NYC, but the $500 with the twin towers seals it for me. Plus, I got in on the ground floor and bought a big set for around a buck a chip. Tell me that if they were still available in quantity at that price they wouldn't get more love.

OTOH, the Bahamia chips do nothing for me and they are objectively pretty similar. I'm not saying that I couldn't learn to love a nice set, but not at today's prices.

I proposed that here about 5 months ago, haven't had any shufflers step forward looking for a job yet.

Heres where the ban will come in:

So those mint chips that my players hated since they were cutting up their fingers.......I dumped them all into a large beach towel...held the two ends and like shining a bowling ball, I broke them in. It actually worked really well

My main concern about doing that (aside from a possible ban) is whether you risk chipping the sharp edges as opposed to just taking off the sharp edges. But the way you describe it doesn't seem too rough, and it sounds like it worked out ok.

That said, it does sound like one of those first world problem: My chips are in such great mint condition that they cut my players' fingers. :)

While I think that may play a part in folks' responses, that's not really what what I was seeking. Take the CIC's for example - someone could give them to me for free and I wouldn't want them. I won't put them into play at The Armory (unless someone somehow managed to make a custom CIC set...then I'd put them into play out of respect for the customs), and if someone did give me a set, I'd give them away to another chipper as soon as humanly possible. Other people love them, and that's cool. I just don't care for their look or feel whatsoever, regardless of price.

I feel similarly about the other two chips I listed. I get that they're usually in good condition and are the older, heavier chips, but I wouldn't make room in my chip storage for them, save to let them stay over just long enough to sell them/give them away. They're welcome on the table...I just have no desire to own them, even I received them for free.

I am not a fan of the giant inlay, hot stamps or the samurai chips.
With that said, there are two different giant inlays sets I would like, simply because of the theme.

I wasn't sure if he was joking or serious. Still not entirely sure. Regardless, funny!

Gotta be tongue-in-cheek, considering his total count is probably now upwards of 80k.....

I find Aztars, Terribles and Empress all varying degrees of "meh" but I get it - there were a ton of them available and they were cheap. Sometimes quantity IS better than quality. :p

You couldn't give me Par-a-dice Casino chips. I'd take some CiC's for free at least but probably would never use them.

I do love me some 3-spots though. I don't get why someone would use a 2-spot (212, 2v etc.) when they could use 3. Radial symmetry ftw. :)

I can't stand dice chips. At all. Remember those? :D

You'll come around on hot stamps, you'll see.

And if you've never seen @jbutler's no mold solid custom set, seeing it may change your mind on solids.

I was the same with hot stamps. Now I love them (when done well that is)

I know this held true for me. When I started I thought hot stamps were just dull and loved complex edge spots. Now I can't wait for my solid hot stamped set.

+4 as well. When I first joined, I thought nothing of hotstamps. Then I saw the Avalons, @meatboy's Hungry Frog tournament set, etc. and that was it. Now I'm awaiting my hotstamps from Corey.

Definitely not a fan of giant inlays. What's the point of getting intricate spots on your chips if you're gonna cover it with a big ass inlay?

Is it really only 80k? I was honestly was under the impression it was in the 200k range.

(I vas yolking.)

It was over 80K 2-1/2 years ago when we moved. At least 120-130K now. I have actually sold some chips (including 460 Blue Chip quarters to Tommy, so I'm not making this up).

The unboxing is going fairly well. I had to give up on cheap steel shelving, and am assembling two more 6-shelf 18x48x72 steel wire shelving units today. And assemble a Sarge for some keepers.

I have pretty much stopped buying (said with a straight face). OTOH, I do have to pick up a couple of insured boxes at the PO this afternoon...

Interesting limitation! Curious - what is it about having the location on them appeals to you? Is it just the consistency of it?

I guess I just like having the chips linked solidly to an actual bricks-and-mortar casino. And without a location, most people wouldn't have any reason to think they weren't just fantasy chips.

Plus it adds another basis for creating mixed casino sets.

The Hungry Frog set is the Mona Lisa of hot stamps to me.

@pltrgyst Larry. You must post pics someday in the near future. That is, if you are ever able to get them into the same space at the same time ;)
@BGinGA And would like to see a pic of your collection too Dave.

As for the OP question. There is no chip I don't get. I kinda love them all.

I feel like you are holding out on us. You clearly have one of the biggest collections, we need some goddamn pr0n. This request also goes out to @BGinGA , a master collection, but I feel like we dont see enough of his collection

Well, looks like I've got some catching up to do. Sitting on a paltry 16k right now.

Wine, or chips?

I'm assuming chips -- the wine generally comes FedEx. One might be Rowlin's Nevada Clubs (CONFIRMED! On the way now!)

Uh-oh: we just got a call from FedEx that they've scheduled a delivery tomorrow. That should be wine, and I told WTSO no Saturday delivery. :(

OTOH, it's a nice 100% pinot noir Sancerre rose ... warm here, so it will be nice to try.

I think that suction you feel with BJ (No pun intended) chips is static electricity....I have them at home and they are clean and I still get that suction phenom happening. The more I was typing the funnier my fargin reply sounded. haha
