Why is baseball the best sport on the planet? Discuss. (6 Viewers)

Moronic?

Make me write it down??? :ROFLMAO: Who the fuck hahahahaha!

If we ever end up at a poker table someday, I will ask you to make me write something down. See how it pans out. ;)

My man…………. Just stay on the internet with your bad self. :ROFLMAO:
If we ever play at a poker table someday, you’ll be writing “Bergs is a suckout donk” on a chalkboard 1000 times just to make sure everyone knows.

I think you read that as I was going to force you to physically write something. It was meant to demonstrate that, yeah, you ain’t throwing a baseball 85mph.

I feel better now. I’m gonna go wash off my face paint and put things away.

Internet truce?

I'm still waiting to hear what DOES constitute a sport. Let's go, you "not a sport" campers. Let's see your list of sports (not just one or two). Define it. "I just know it when I see it" doesn't cut it.

And we made it 8 pages before WW was mentioned. In the baseball thread.

Weird how the same PCFers can’t let it go.

@Windwalker is still out there, he’s looking for your chips!! Oohheeehhoooo watch out, he’s going to drive the price of Tigers up soon if you don’t behave!! Watch out, @Windwalker lurks on the internet, getting into your head and just waiting to drive the price of your chips up higher!!!!!

I don’t know him, but @Windwalker probably enjoys baseball as much as he enjoys ruining hobbies. Maybe with all these tags @Windwalker might show up again and give us some tips about baseball and maybe even kick start the hobby again by buying some more chips.

I’m not sure why we have to exclude things. There’s a lot of sports that I think are dumb that I won’t watch, but that doesn’t mean they’re not sports.

I wonder if the “not a sport” folks are the same people who refuse to admit that a hot dog is a sandwich? Hmm

Problem with football is I don’t think I’ve made it through a regular season NFL game in ~4 years. 40 min of 25 second plays, 200 minutes of commercials/timeouts.

I used to love watching football, was a Redskins season ticket holder for years (yeah, yeah - I know they suck - lol).

I just can’t watch it anymore, not b/c I don’t like football, but I fricken hate commercials. It’s even bad live - everyone just stands around for 200 minutes for the commercial time outs - lol.
Commercials are part of every sport broadcast. I watch mostly College Football which is WAY better and truely Gods Sport

Just ruining everything. Now hot dogs are even being debated in the baseball thread. Mods, can we clean this up before hot dogs are mentioned in every thread on PCF?

I don’t know that it matters. But I guess I think it should have both a competing aspect as well as being physically demanding. If it only has the first, I’d consider it a game or an activity. I can name a few I would consider sports:

Football (either kind)
Hockey
Tennis
Running
Basketball
Martial arts
Cross country skiing
Cycling
Boxing

Gonna need some George Carlin here!

Hitting a 96mph slider isn’t physically demanding?!?

I think outside of Eriks, most of the folks are just trolling. It's a bit hyperbole, as are all the baseball enthusiasts who compare it to basketball as "just standing putting a ball in the hoop".

All sports are different, but baseball probably doesn't lend itself a bit to that thought of not necessarily requiring the same visually fit requirement that sports like basketball and soccer do. For example, Nascar fans are happy to recount just how difficult racing is on the body and the great shape drivers should be in to participate at the highest level, but people are always still going to see it as, well, sure, but you're driving a car.

I think a great way to understand this is to look at youth athletics. Go listen to travel ball coaches. They are looking for kids with "haunches", big thighs and asses", or for pitchers, someone that is all "elbows and assholes" - the latter meaning long legs and long arms, so that when they're pitching all the batter sees coming at them is limbs and a great/hidden release.

Do the same thing in basketball and coaches are looking for height and mature bodies obviously, but also pure athleticism. How they move, dip their hips, fluid, etc. There's technical aspects galore in both sports, but from a pure physical perspective, yes, baseball is not one that is hyper focused on athleticism. It's obviously a sport, but is one of the low hanging fruits that trolls are going to pick when trying to delineate between sports and games.

Or throwing one for that matter.

If throwing an object can bring the dangers of tearing ligaments/tendons within the elbow and shoulder, I’d say that has a “physical demand” to it.

can your performance be improved directly by improving your physical condition? if yes, then you are playing a sport. if not, you are playing a game.

this test would still inevitably result in some edge cases, but baseball sure as hell isn't one of them.

I’d settle for athletic. Said nothing about looking good. There’s nothing athletic about some of the players I found while googling though. Still doesn’t mean they’re not excellent players. I just not sure I think they’re engaged in a sport.

But I’m not an idiot, I do know it’s considered a sport. I’m just offering an imo based upon some logical (again imo) conclusions. I don’t consider golf a sport either fwiw. Despite the big money/audience.
How are you defining athletic? Do you consider a guy like Peyton manning or Tom Brady athletic compared to linebackers or Wide receivers?

You mean like this:

Lollipops  :ROFLMAO:

This sure is a far cry from what my heart was looking for:

"I used to listen to Cubs games on the radio with my granddad. It was amazing to share that bond with him".
Or
"I take my kids to a game every year, soak up the sun, watch batting practice...it's amazing time together".
Or
"I was there when Chipper Jones hit that walk-off against the Dodgers to put the Braves in the playoffs, I'll never forget it".

Nope, leave it to this place to turn it into, "what a dumb fucking waste of time baseball is, not a sport, worse than death".
I need to find a new hobby.

Carry on.

Why must we have labels?

Some sports are games. Some games are sports.

And some just want to be activities while participating in a sport. Or game. Or event. With athletes. Or players. Or participants. Or Contestants. Or Competitors. Or (insert yours here)

We should let the specific situation figure what it wants to be. No reason why any of us should somehow be the label giver to any single or multiple situations.
