Are CPC really worth the price? (1 Viewer)

So I actually had a very similar experience and quick opinion change on cpc chips. I bought a color sample from the classifieds to check out cpc chips in person. They showed up and the chips felt light, sounded like glass, and I felt they just weren't for me personally (chips are all personal). Then I decided I wanted to give them another shot since so many trusted members cherish their chips and I'm very glad I did. I ordered 20 1s from key west and 20 csq mold rounders from the classifieds. I LOVE both and am now considering a cpc set in the future. I don't know if it's the labels adding weight and making them sound better, or if the sample I had was older/of less quality, but I highly suggest getting some chips on the mold you want with labeles on them to check out. Cpc will sell you any number of their stock chips and so will Key West.
Labels do make a difference on sound and I’ll also say I handled the SCROWN molds, that @navels so graciously is passing around, and I LOVED them. Will likely be ordering a set later next year especially since they just introduced tri-moons!!!

that to me is the biggest fault with CPC. They lack a vibrant yellow. If they had that, I would order a third cpc set.
I agree, although I do think canary is a pretty awesome colour. It’s a massive improvement over the mustardy yellow from the asm days.

Was just going to say the same thing... I’m sure David’s aware of this concern though and we can only hope, is brewing something up as we speak!

I visually loved the scrown mold. Out of all the molds that I have handled, they were my least favorite.

I agree. I like Canary. It still lacks the "pop" that BCC/Paulson/TRK offers in their yellows. Hell, just look at my yellow mardi gras chips...........WOW. And NO, they aren't for sale :)

You have a point and in spite of your closing comment........ I’ll take them haha.

I've always wondered if there are certain spots they aren't allowed to use or just haven't gotten there yet like 8v and 818 which are both highly popular spots I'd love to see from them.

I love the canary yellow...

Firstly, I’d like to say that I think CPC is a great company with fantastic people at the helm.

The lack of a vibrant yellow is one of the things that kind of turns me away from CPC as well. Another thing that turns me off is the brass flakes. In some colors they make the chips look almost dirty. I’ve always seen CPC as a company that has a lot more room for retro designs whereas BCC catered more towards modern-looking designs. There’s no comparing the two as BCC had notoriously bad QC, but I often wished that I could go back in time and buy a ton of BCC chips for their color palette and pray that I didn’t receive egg-shaped inlays.

If I remember correctly, 8v spots are very difficult to press into the chip so that the inserts don’t fall out. I remember people having issues with BCC 8vs falling out. As far as 818 spots go, I’m not sure why they are not a current offering. Knowing CPC though, I’m sure there’s a good reason.

In my humble opinion, the value is in the 44mm CPCs. But I might be a bit bias (:

I paid $4 per chip, which seems expensive, but there is no other place you can get oversized chips at that price point (much less custom made).

Are they as nice (quality wise, feel, etc.) as my oversized Paulson? Not a chance. But the are AWESOME to play with, and all of my poker peeps comment on how much they love them.

Here's the best way to think of it. How bad do you want a custom set? AND would you be kicking yourself tomorrow if CPC shut down?

This is exactly what I went through with the custom Paulson hot stamps that Apache was offering. I worried so much about the damn price that I didn't notice that the doors were closing and the train was pulling away from the station. After 2 years of pondering, I decided to pull the trigger only to get the, SORRY, YOU'RE SHIT OUT OF LUCK reply. Not in those exact words, but it sure felt like a damn punch in the gut.

Many good points. Price be damned the idea of a playable set of oversize clay chips is crazy awesome.

I love the CPC chips, I've had 6 sets made with 6 plus addons from CPC and one set from ASM back in the day. I did receive warped chips from them, brought it to David's attention and he immediately went to work to replace them! I'm currently waiting for two sets that are in production, and already have plans for a large LC set made this summer.

Only draw back to CPC is the wait!!! But when you get the shipping notice its like being a kid at Christmas!!

A bit more on price (and whether they are worth it)... as stated, this is subjective, and likely based on a number of things. How important are chips to you? Is it important in having a unique set to help with game security? How about something personalized to your tastes? How much momey do you have? Etc..

This last one was pertinent to me. I don’t have tons of disposable poker money floating around... yes, I am profitable with poker, but everything in my home that’s poker related comes out of any winnings. I reinvest poker proceeds back into my home game, for tables, chairs, chips, cards, hotdawg rollers, etc... so my last CPC set (Fat Tire Cash set) took me a couple years of saving and planning to afford it all.. granted, I didn’t go cheap on the designs, and I needed a large enough set to support the MTTD meetup each year (2000+ chips).. it was a major outlay of cash.. the extra time to save money allowed me a couple years to perfect my colors and design.. it was a labor of love, and I’d never sell the set.

Each of us that creates a custom set thinks our designs are the absolute nutz.. because to us (at that moment in time) they are. They fit our tastes. Who would order a set that they felt was inferior. Now that said, I’ve seen many folks who order sets quickly, and then as their tastes change, or they get new inspiration, they find aspects they’d possibly improve on (this happens a lot). I’m glad I had so long to design and perfect my set, as I can honestly say that after almost a year since ordering it, I can’t find one improvement I’d make to my cash set.

Amazing set jeez

It’s funny how much the edgespots make the corresponding base pop. I love my $5s (even though I’m ordering secondaries) but damn some of the bright spots make the canary look even brighter. As per @Trihonda set, orange tone definitely seems to go well with canary.

Your not ordering fives because your unhappy with the current version. You simply half to have one or more chip projects in motion at all times.

Guilty as charged, I love my whole set.

In my defence I deliberately only ordered 400 $5s knowing that I was going to order another 200 anyway. My budget was just a bit stretched at the time and the $5 was the only chip I wasn’t 100% sure of.

Op should just accept the inevitable and buy a mint Paulson set........Then order a custom cpc set to go with it.

 really? While I love beyond all others the feel of web molds. I found the two TRK molds feel the best above all the other CPC offerings. The Lcrown is the better of the two. I don't like nubby A mold, HHR, Hourglass...ect.
