Board Gamers, show us your loot! (8 Viewers)

I'm pretty burned out on board games these days. Still love to play then as often as I can. But I've only made maybe 3-4 purchases in the last 1.5-2 years. The market is oversaturated and so many games just feel like other games. It's hard for me to get excited about yet another worker placment game, or another dungeon co-op, or another deck builder.

The game designer that Mrs Zombie worked for claimed that there are only 6 or 7 different board games once you boil them down.

That said, it is fun to occasionally get a new flavor, even if it's the same thing. Kind of like playing Circus Games vs holdem. There may be some different thought process involved, but it's still basically poker, which is essentially a partial knowledge/bluffing game.

The market is saturated with mediocre games. For sure! I don't buy many new games either. But any day of the week I'd play the games I own that I rate a 10/10, like Food Chain Magnate or Dungeon Petz or Twilight Struggle. I never get tired of those. But I did get tired of buying new games.

I did take a flyer on this one though last year on Kickstarter. Delivery should be by the end of the year. It looked new enough and quality enough and innovative enough that I thought I'd try it.

I put in a pre order for Lost Ruins of Arnak mostly because I like the theme, def not because it's very original.

And I Kickstarted the expansion for Grand Austria Hotel because it's one of my favorite games.

But I'm perfectly happy just playing Trickerion, Glory to Rome, or Castles of Burgundy forever along with a few other games.

I just picked up "The Kings Dilemma". Looks like a fantastic game....

15-20 years ago, I could keep track of almost all significant board game releases. 10 years ago it started to get where I could not do that casually. Now it's a full time job, and I already have one of those. So I have to go look up The Kings Dilemma now.

Heavy Cardboard all the way! T.K.D. looks great if you can have the same 5 people meet to play through the legacy consistently.

My wife destroyed us at Scooby Doo Monopoly the other day:
