So I'm thinking of making some "board game" custom chips, on the cards mold (china ceramics).
What should the denominations reasonably go up to? As in, which games are there that might need, say, a 5000 chip? Or a 25,000 chip?
Power Grid justifies every denomination from 1 to 50what games do you play? i personally can't think of any game that would need anything beyond a $1k chip - and even that is probably not actually necessary - but there are so many games out there, who knows?
Outside of Acquire, the only other use for 5000s I can think of is some of the very large 18xx.Power Grid justifies every denomination from 1 to 50
Food Chain Magnate every denomination from 1 to 100
18xx you need everything from 1 to 500, maybe 1000
Acquire uses 100-500-1000-5000
I forget what Imperial uses, but you definitely need chips in that game as well as all of the above
My problem is that I'm not "up" on most of the popular games from the last five years. Lots of Kickstarters, hell, it's the age of the Kickstarter board game, and I've been burned by too many pretty Kickstarter games that were mediocre, so I am strictly try before you buy there.
I play it in my iPad a lot. I just Kickstarted the card game version because I don't own TM. I like it, but it's too long IRL for what it is. And I always felt the board stuff was fine, but not really necessary.I've recently started playing Terraforming Mars through Steam. An excellent board game, for a much lower cost, no set-up time, and an ability to play in a COVID world or with friends that simply can't make game nights because of distance.
We were recently stuck in a Hertz line for 3 f**k**g hours. Mrs Zombie would have killed someone, if I didn't have a 3 hour game at my fingertips. No game is too long, just the time available to play can be too short.I play it in my iPad a lot. I just Kickstarted the card game version because I don't own TM. anyone here play/enjoy castles of tuscany? i love castles of burgundy more, but tuscany is so much more accessible and it's right up my wife's alley so it actually gets played. and it's nice to not have to look up what every building does every time.
I didn't say it was too long in general. It's too long IMO for what it is. One of my favorite games is Trickerion, which is 3-4 hours. My games of TM on the iPad have never come even close to approaching 3 hours. We were recently stuck in a Hertz line for 3 f**k**g hours. Qwixx has long been one of my favorite roll n write games. While there are others I like more now, like Clever or Welcome To, I'll still play Qwixx anytime someone wants to.I picked up Qwixx recently and my son and I tried it out the other night at the cabin we stayed at. He kicked my butt and liked the game a lot. It's a great alternative to Yahtzee which my parents love to play over and over... We will have to teach it to them when they come visit in about a month.
We also got in a fun family game of Hedbanz (one of the few things my daughter will play), and 3 of us played Adorable Pandaring again, which is a fun little card game. Quick, easy to teach, good art and theme, and a bit of strategy. We play it a lot while camping because it travels well and doesn't need a big table. I only bought it because it was on sale and my wife loves pandas, but I was pleasantly surprised by the game.
