Board Gamers, show us your loot! (8 Viewers)

Yesterday we had a small gathering to play games. The goal is to play one game from the pile of 3 on the right, then another from the middle pile of 3, move to our feature game (not in the photo), and finish with a winddown game from the two on the left.

Of course, all games are better with poker chips. In this case, keeping score with Cosmic Wimpout.

Then changed sets for the Francs in Unexploded Cow.

The feature game is our new Golden Tee Go, which doesn't use poker chips...... yet.

We had so much fun playing a skins round, we did it a second time and never got to the winddown game. Fun times!

Looks like Mike is taking off, to infinity and beyond

I will play 1860 on 18xx.games. It handles low player count well, and I stink at the game, so that sounds fun.

1860 has the goofiest end game. I've only experienced it once, but you run the existing companies, and the lowest dividend shuts down. Then you keep doing it. Something like that anyway. Supposedly it is good with two players. I'll look into it more this weekend. Finals week this week and my grades are due tomorrow.

Played Castle Panic with the girls tonight. We have been playing more games with them lately and focusing on more of the cooperative games. The girls can get very competitive and upset when they lose. They really enjoyed this game!

I got my son Castle Panic Jr. He's 5. He still doesn't like to play by the rules. So it's a struggle. He also uses Super Rhino Hero as an excuse to just knock stuff down with his dinosaurs. And uses my copy of Star Wars Rebellion just to have wars with the minis.

Just picked up Dominations. Cool abstract Civ Builder where you build a tech tree with cards in a grid where the sides have to match. Everything is available from the get to it you can afford it, so you can discover several long term strats.

Came up in my FB memories today. A "before kids" special: Mage Knight the Board Game. Playing a 4+ hour game seems an impossible task these days. I heard they are working on an app version of this game, and if so that would be amazing!

I picked this one up to introduce my son to Gloomhaven. I played Gloomhaven with some friends for a several months about 2 years ago, then we stopped and switched to D&D for a while. It was on sale on Steam, so we've switched to playing Gloomhaven digitally now since we're stuck at home, and it's been fun getting back into it. I pre-ordered Frosthaven from my local game store the other day too.

I browsed through the thrift store and lunch and snagged Bob Ross: The Art of Chill for $4. :D Has anybody played it? It gets decent reviews and seems pretty laid back, each player doing their own thing. My wife might like it since she's not into aggressive, "take that" games really.

The game does exactly what is supposed to do. I rate about 6% of the games and expansions I play 10 out of 10. Art of Chill earned the 10/10 rating the instant after I played it the first time. It's mildly strategic, it's mildly competitive, and you get to paint happy little trees. One of the best games ever made IMO.

I bought 2 more Funkoverse sets on clearance from Gamestop and they arrived yesterday. I'm up to at least 8 of the sets now, and I've only played the game once so far! I have an addiction to cheap Funkoverse. I love the random mashup nature of the game. I'm excited to have the second Golden Girls set with Dorothy and Sophia now. Sophia's purse is an item, one of her abilities is to put a hit on somebody, and another is "Picture it..." :D I brought my DC sets to work for some lunchtime gaming with a co-worker so I can actually play the game some more.

Didn't read through the entire thread, but didn't see this game posted in the last 6 pages. Anyone every play this? My brother got it last year and I played it once at his house right before the lockdown happened. Haven't been able to get together since, but I'm dying to play it again!

see they are doing a second edition GWT and 2 more variants?
Yep. I'm a little miffed by it since the game hasn't even been out that long. But from what I've heard so far, I don't think any major changes are happening in the new version. Hopefully nothing I can't easily implement in my 1st ed if I think it's an improvement.

A recent game of 18VA. The chips in the lower right corner are unlabeled Majestics, the game owner's favorites.

New member here. Sorry to resurrect old conversations on this thread but this is exactly why I joined the forum. I am an avid board game who knows little to nothing about poker. I have found a new love for train games including 18xx (I've only played 18xx online) but also winsome and other cube rail games. I bought a cheap set of poker chips because it's so much more satisfying than playing with paper money. I would love to have a nicer set of chips to play with that I can hopefully get for a reasonable price. The problem is because I know nothing about poker I don't know what chips are nice and what a reasonable price is either. Any help from someone who knows train games and poker chips would be awesome.

what are everyone's favorite games to play with poker chips? For me it's Train games and lords of Vegas but looking for some more recommendations to utilize poker chips with board games.

Lots of moderately priced options (.30-.50/chip). Also lots of ludicrously priced options ($1+/chip). Check out Apachepokerchips.com.

I use chips for basically any game where money moves around a lot, Lords of Vegas, Vegas Showdown, stock games, and City of the Big Shoulders. I'm not an 18xx guy though. So I don't get nearly as much use out of chips as those that are into 18xx do.
